Are decks numbered?

First time cruiser traveling on the Carnival Inspiration in December. THANKS to all that have shared their experiences for cruise newbies!!! I've seen posts where people refer to Deck 1, or Deck 10, or anywhere in between. My question is, are decks officially numbered? And if they are, do they start counting from the bottom as Deck 1 up, or the top as Deck 1 down? Reason I ask is because other posts say it takes DAYS to figure out the layout of the ship, and not all elevators/steps go to all floors. So I’m creating my own version of the deck plans with this info and will add numbers to the decks if that applies. Just trying to plan ahead!!!

Decks are numbered as well as named. Deck 1 would be the bottom that you wont have access to. You will most likely know your way around by the last day. Dont worry, stop and ask any female directions. Men are lost in general :grin. They might even have pocket maps in your cabin. The paper with the daily activites on it should list the deck name/number. Everyone gets "lost" the first few days. If you see water you know you went the wrong way.

Thanks for the info! I NEVER leave anything to chance, and NEVER ask a man for directions. I'll be watching to avoid that last big step into the water!!!

On the Fantasy class ships, of which the Carnival Inspiration is one, the decks are lettered not numbered. The elevators and stairway landings are lettered as followed: R=Riviera deck M= Main Deck, U=upper deck, E= Empress Deck, A= Atlantic deck P= Promenade deck, L=Lido deck, V=Verandah deck, etc.
