If you are cruising on Carnival, I would go to the Carnival website. Royal Caribbean has a write-up each day with the itinerary changes their ships are using on the Royal Caribbean website. As of today, Royal is still not going to Grand Cayman.

I just got back from a HAL trip, and we did not go to Grand Cayman, we went to Costa Maya instead. News was the Cayman's suffered heavy damange to the port area, as well as terrible beach erosion etc. Right now, the islanders are trying to concentrate on rebuilding homes, etc. and hope to soon be able to open to tourism soon. Keep checking the websites for updates.

I leave on Oct. 24th and I called Princess and they are not stopping on Grand Cayman or Princess Cay. They have replaced those two ports with only one stop and that stop is Majahuan, Mexico.

Has anyone been to Majahuan? It looks like just a big pool resort and the last thing I want to do is hang out there all day. Are there decent shore excursions from Majahuan?

Last I heard they weren't expected to be returning to Grand Cayman until sometime in November but that could change at any moment.

BTW you're asking in the right place. People who post here are usually more informed than the res agents at CCL !! Just my =twocents .

Take the Chacchoben Ruins tour, it was excellent. Mahahual (Costa Maya) is a neat little port, in my opinon. But if you are wanting some activity, take a ships excursion. Or taxi over to the nearby fishing village for a nice beach day.

I hate to tell you this, but I just back from a cruise on Carnival's Conquest (10/3-10/10). We were not told until we were embarking that we were not going to Grand Cayman. However, since we had reading reports that Grand Cayman was in such awful condition that only residents are being allowed onto the island, we weren't terribly surprised. Try verifiying for yourself (I think the Cayman Islands official ministry of tourism website may have info or call your local Cayman Islands toursim rep to see if she has any info). Search Google for Cayman Islands News as well.

Just wondering if any of you that did not go to Grand Cayman got any ship credit or discount since the itinerary changed? I know that Carnival gave some discounts when the hurricanes first hit but nothing listed on their website since the end of Sept about any changes or discounts/credits.

I call Holland American and they told me that there would not be a port fee refund even though we are not going to Grand Cayman but staying longer in Cozumel. Does not seem right to keep port fee since we were going to Cozumel anyway. Even if it cost more because we are staying longer it shouldn't be as much as port fee for Grand Cayman at least I would think not. What do you think?
