well I'm going to be here too shortly so will add some stuff then.

It's been a long while since I visited the home of the "Goonies" a great kids movie that was filmed there yrs ago.

There's a bridge to the State of Washington and as I recall lots of water (mouth of the Columbia River) and there will be Lewis and Clark stuff I'm sure this yr.

We'll be going in Sept & in Astorua have booked a ships excursion that goes to the Lewis& Clark Fort--also stops orpasses various landmarks in & around Astoria. Looks like a nice low key, beatiful port! Hoe you will post when you return.

Well we made it to Astoria. hasn't changed much since we drove there back in the 80's. I'd venture to say almost not at all...... but there was a nice new Maritime Museum downtown on the waterfront.

We docked to the West of Downtown. There was a group of tourista trap tents set up on the dock area. Buses ran a shuttle downtown all day $6. US return anytime. A ship load of folks overwhelms this port at first until you get dispersed.
Great bargins on up to date clothing at the JCPenny store which was right out of the 60's.
A nice trolley that runs along the water front. And you could walk the track right of way quite easily if you wished. Likely 20 mins to downtown harbour area.
The Goonies tshirts are still available in the old second hand store on the harbour. As were almost anything else old you might want from the area.

For more Information and an overall view of the area and a pac nor-west cruise go to the Website of one of our fellow cruisers. They did a bang up job:

Personally ..sorry If you check the preismans site in the post above there might be something though. There were Louis & Clarke trips. A trip down to SeaSide Oregon a nice llittle tourista town down the coast and I believe there was a winery/cooking thingy too but that's all I can tell you. Soory.
Nice little "Real" fishing port.

I don't think so. To far south for local Killer whale pods and the migrating whales of all other types would be a pretty hit and miss operation and pretty far out. I do not recall seeing anything locally either as we walked the harbour.

Just back from this cruise. It was wonderful! We took the tour to Seaside & Canon beach and we had a glorious day. The beaches and communites were fantastic and very impressive. All the "guides" are local people who volunteer. Our guide was a fire fighter from Astoria. He gave us so much information and historical background that was fascinating. On the way back from our 2nd beach stop he said "I can be quiet, or talk on the way back". We all said, "Talk!" He gave us so much more - very interesting. At the end of his talk, everyone clapped! The people are very nice and friendly. It feels like a step back in time - the way America used to be!

At the dock there were tents as previously reported but I found it very interesting to see the local artisty. Some of course was very pricey but there were some lovely pieces if anyone would so choose to purchase. I did buy some handcrafted jewelry from a girl who makes jewlery in the town. Lovely pieces and they were very reasonably priced.

We had a lovely day in Astoria.
