I will be cruising HAL shortly while on a Post-Induction Atkins Diet...has anyone out there done Atkins while aboard? Curious if there any hits and misses on their cuisine...

Next to impossible! All you can hope to do is to minimize your carb intake, but they will be included in most things that you eat, in a most sumptuous way. I've about decided to lower the barriors on my next cruise; do the ketosis thing when I get back.

Breakfast is a breeze extra cheese omelet. I do ok for a couple of days but the desserts look way too good. I have noticed at dinner the portions for the carb stuff rice potatoes aren't as large as we Americans usually eat. Enjoy the food and be good at least at breakfast!

I consider the 1/2 cup rice ration to be merely a tease unless it is in Sushi....better spent on Scotch.....:>)

I've done Atkins before. Never on a ship, but you can do it. Hard part will be passing on the pastas and deserts.

Bassman you should have no problem on this diet, Many of us who have diabetes have to watch our carb's. I know that they will fix you a diabetic meal, which is low or no suger, low starches, and low fat.
I do not follow that however, because I only get to cruise 2 weeks out of the year.

Hi - I did the Atkins while I was on a cruise in February. I did not eat any rice, potatoes or pasta - had shrimp cocktails, salads, steaks and sugar free desserts when I couldn't pass them up. I did wish that I brought bottled water with me though since I drink so much during the day. You can do Atkins if you make your mind up to do it. I gained very little weight and was back in ketosis in a day.

Enjoy your cruise!

Bassman, when I was on the Maasdam in October 2002, they did have a few sugar free deserts.

Last summer, on the Maasdam, they offered a cheese plate and a sugar-free dessert every night one the cruise.

I am not an Atkins devotee, but my boyfriends mother and all three of his aunts, who were on the cruise with us were all on it. I will say tho, that I ate nicely every evening and had a light breakfast and afternoon snack (was always off ship for lunch) and lost two pounds. All that tourist walking and swimming helped, too, I think.

His mom usually ordered a salad, an entree, skipped the starch and asked for double green vegs and had cheese for dessert.

Hope this helps...
