Can you go on your own to the Atlantis Hotel? Do they offer anything at the hotel for cruisers? Or is it better to go on a ship sponsored tour?

Better to go on your own.Get a taxi and it will drop you off right in front of the hotel. They have a tour of the Digs as they call it for $25.00 per adult. It is a nice tour you can go to the atlantis web site and see the tour online, I don't have the link but I just typed in Atlantis Hotel and it gave me a couple of options and you pick the one in Nassua. Then when you are done with the tour you can go around the hotel and shop go to the casino, get something to eat,but you are not allowed to use the pools or beach. It is a nice tour and the hotel is worth seeing.

Jeana, go on your own. We took a water taxi, $6 per person both ways. The hotel is AWESOME, we spend 5 hours there, and I don't think we saw everything. We also took some food from the cruise ship with us in a bag back and had that for lunch, since the food there is really EXPENSIVE. We paid the $25 for the dig (we didn't pay for our son), but the guards at the entrance don't pay a lot of attention, and people tell me that they sneak in. It depends how honest you want to be. Just make sure you get a map (at the booth in the middle of the casino where you pay for the dig) and walk the whole property, there is something amazing at every corner, even at the edges of the property.

I don't see where you can book that on the Atlantis Web Site. Is there some way to book it ahead of time, or just go to the hotel when you get there?

No need to book anything. Just go to the hotel when you get there. Other than the dig (underwater aquarium), you can walk around the hotel and most of the grounds on your own without paying. Camelia

If you go to the aquarium at night you don't have to pay to go through. At least thats how it was Jan 2001.
We are returning to Nassau on Tues Aug 26th on the RCCL Majesty this time. (CAn't wait!!!!!) Will let you know what we find this time.

Jeana, there was a recent post that Atlantis is now offering a "day pass" @ $25pp which does include the beach and waterslides but not the pools(?). A taxi is just $4pp each way and readily available on the Main Street outside the pier area and at the entrances of the hotel. It is a great resort including casino, shops, restaurants (very expensive) and the great Dig that you can tour. It is a nice diversion for something to do while your ship is in port at Nassau. You do not have to book it in advance, either which is a good thing.
Bon Voyage

Nanatravel, what you said about the day pass interests me, since I will be in Nassau next year. Me and my son would love the use their slides. I just don't see how they can let you use the slides and not the pools. I only saw a handfull and very laid back lifeguards/hotel workers, and it would be impossible for them to keep track who is allowed to do what given the large number of guests/visitors at the hotel. Any more info on this day pass would be appreciated.

Carmelia, email me at nanatravel@comcast.net. I will find the note I read this week which I think was on cruisecritics, copy it and email it back to you. We too will be back in Nassau in February. This time with our 3 grand children, so I am very interested in this New bit of advise. I want them to explore the Dig, too but it would be $125 just for my family. When there in 2002, the security guards were very strict and posted at each door and junction out side. Even though we had tour wrist bands, they would not allow us out towards the pool areas. I was persistent however, and manage to get out there and walked to the Pyrmid to photograph the water slides. They do not empty into one of the many pools. The man made beach at Atlantis is not the public beach area.

Hi All,
We just returned from th the bahamas and had a great time!!!!!!As for the Atlantis-we took a taxi to Cabbage Beach played in the ocean for a few hours(Just a side note watch the jellyfishin August we had one little boy get one down his swim trunks-OUCH!!!!)and then walked over to the Atlantis-We just wandered around the grounds for over an hour even in the pool areas-noone seemed to even notice us(This was around5pm) we spent so much time visiting the outdoor tanks and lagoons looking at all the fish we didn't have time to go inside and wander. The Atlantis quests all wear wristbands to use the pool areas-I honestly believe if you just look like you belong they won't question you at least towards the end of the day.

Have a great time!!!!!!

Cabbage beach is next to theSheraton I believe. It is a public beach. We had the taxi driver take us and this is where he left us off. As soon as you get on the beach you can walk to the left and use the Sheratons beach-we also used their outdoor showers and restrooms-just pretend that you belong there. No one questioned us . My son and his friend sat down at the bar and they gave them a bag of popcorn for free because they were to young to sit and eat the free popcorn at the bar. Fromthere we walked next door ton the Atlantis and again noone bothered us. The Atlantis grounds are massive and beautiful certainly worth your time. I can't wait to go spend a few days there!!!

Enjoy

Thanks Wendy for the beach information. Even though I have stayed at Paradise Island, I had never heard the name of the beach. That is a good hint for my next family cruise.
