We will be on the Aug. 8 sailing of Star Princess traveling with our 2 sons - 15 and 10 and tend to prefer booking our own sightseeing. The 4 of us traveled a very similar itinerary 3 yrs ago on the Golden Princess, so we would like to vary our day trips from the last visits. We are planning the following:
Rhodes - a new port for us, so we're pretty open to itinerary
Naples - did the Pompeii/Naples thing last time, so this time we would either like to do Amalfi coast or Capri
Rome - a general tour of Rome leaving from the port
Monte Carlo - perhaps a day trip to Nice, Cannes, etc

If our "demographics" seem acceptable and you'd like to perhaps share a van or limo, please email me at ls.welco@snet.net.

Rhodes - We visited the Church of Our Lady. The church was interesting and the grounds were nicely done. You can go up to the top of the cross at the end of the long lane of conifers. You can also get a good overlook of Rhodes from the area to the left of the church.

Naples: We did Capri this time since we had not done the others before and what the tour called a museum in Anacapri was actually the villa of a wealthy Swede, very beautiful with fabulous views from near the chapel. Unfortunately, the tour was more oriented toward offering the shopping portion in Anacapri and the groups were told to meet about an hour later to go to the "museum." With that terminology it drew very little interest and only about 8 people gathered. By that time we only had about half an hour to see tour the villa and get back to the meeting point. We would have preferred to spend the whole time there instead. Also, the Auguste Gardens in lower Capri were very nice and there were good views from an area toward the back.

I would opt for the Amalfi Coast's views, lemon trees, and the sights.

Monte Carlo: We've been to MC and Cannes a couple of times. I don't remember much of significance in Cannes except the topless beach and the woman tour guide commenting on "two fried eggs." I liked the trip to St Tropez. You pass by the home of Laurel and Hardy. Then in St Tropez there are luxurious yachts and some picturesque sights. Our tour took us to a "planned community" around artificial canals on the way back and that was rather bland (commercial).

Hope this helps somewhat.
