Checked baggage: 2 pieces
Hand baggage: Passengers travelling to and
from most UK
Airports may take 1 bag,
maximum size

56x45x25cm(22x17.5x9.85inches). PLUS one
laptop, handbag or briefcase
1 bag only (see dimensions)

I think the 23kilo refers to the suitcase for the hold,. The hand luggage to take on board with you will be the usual type flightbag size...i.e. about 18inches by 7 or similar

Here is the reply from BA...!!! 23kg in overhead lockers.

Dear Mr

Yes, a 23kg(51lbs) maximum bag weight applies and you must be able to lift the bag into the overhead lockers in the aircraft cabin unaided.

Full details of hand baggage allowances, size, contents and dimensions can be found on ba.com at:

Thank you for taking the time to contact us.

wow, the reply I gave you is at the end of their emailed E-ticket to me. [I'm flying to Miami in Jan]I guess then the dimensions on my post are what you should have for the luggage and that the size therefore will restrict the weight.
It's not very clear at all, is it?

I just copied/paste this off the BA web site. It seems to me that you can have a suitcase weighing 23 kg for the hold and hand luggage weighing 23kg but it can't be larger than laptop/handbag/briefcase. So the size of the latter will restrict the weight unless you've got a lump of lead in it

The following allowances apply for all passengers entering the UK or departing from London Heathrow, London Gatwick, London City, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Jersey, Manchester and Newcastle:

one standard-sized bag - maximum size of the bag must not exceed 56x45x25cm (22x17.5x9.85in) (including wheels, pockets and handles)
In addition, one laptop sized bag, handbag or briefcase
A 23kg(51lbs) maximum bag weight applies and you must be able to lift the bag into the overhead lockers in the aircraft cabin unaided.
NB. Cabin crew will assist customers with additional needs.

While speaking to BA on the phone i decided to ask about this weight for cabin bags! and yes you can take 23kg into the cabin with you providing you can lift it up into the overhead lockers.

Yes but surely it must adhere to the size...i.e briefcase/laptop/handbag, so as such the size restricts the weight

Think you will find this size above is Bigger than the ones you have quoted....but i see what you are saying! still 23 kg in that size is still damned heavy above your head.
