We just returned from our cruise on the Golden to the Souther Carib. We had a great time (who wouldn't on a cruise), but it failed to meet our expectations.

We have previously sailed on the Sun Princess prior to the Carnival Merger. On this cruise the quality of food and quality of entertainment was much better than this recent cruise.

We loved the ship - Golden Princess. It's everything you've heard about

We were dissapointed in the food:
The breakfast in the Horizon was good, but not near as good as the spread that Disney puts out.
The best dining experience we had was in Sabatini's. The 16 course meal was excellent and the service was great. Of course we had to pay extra for this.
In the main dining room, our waiter was prompt and efficent in serving us, but he made no reccomendations on what to choose off of the menu. If we asked him to describe a dish, he did little more than read the menu back to us. This was a big contrast to our previous cruise waiters.
Service around the pools was not great either. we usually walked to the bar to get what we wanted because no waiters came by.
Two nights we used the personal choice dining, while the rest of the time we dined at our table for 6 during the late seating. One night during PC dining we had a very fun group to dine with - the other night our group was not so fun. But, it was nice to meet and dine with different people using the PC dining option.

Entertainment was not great either (though I have to say we missed the first show "Lights, Camera, Action". There were no seats left when we attempted to go). The other performers we saw such as the magician and comedy juggler were just plain cheesy. There was a steel band group that occassional played around the midship pool, but there was no music around the other pools.
I'm not sure if this is Princess' fault, but the Skywalker loung was dead and used very little by the passengers (what a waste of a neat space!).

Our room stewart was very good in taking care of us.

Our room with balcony was very nice. We used the balcony quite a bit to have a drink and watch departures with the other guest on their balconies. Sharing the balconies with our neighbors was a lot of fun.

Embarkation and debarkation were painless.

If you have any questions post then here and I will reply back.

Barbados: 4X4 Safari It was fun. The driver gave us an overview of the island and served the best rum punch we drank anywhere.

St. Lucia: Catamaran to the Pitons. We thought this was going to be a great excursion based on previous catamaran excursions we had been on. It was too long and didn't allow much time to do other things on the island. The Catamaran was a more like a twin hulled barge with too many people. It stopped for a swim which was much needed for relief from the hot sun on this long ride. If the Land and Sea excursion is available, I've heard it is much better as you only take the barge one way.

Antigua: We booked Lawrence of Antigua ( lawrenceofantigua.com ). He's a taxi driver with a reputation of giving a good tour. It was an enjoyable tour. We had some beach time, saw the sights, and ate lunch.

St. Martin: Our favorite stop on the cruise. We rented a car at the cruise port and drove all the way around the island. Highlights were lunch in Marigot at a french restaurant, Ft Louis, swam at Orient Beach (Beautiful!), and shopped. Try the Guavaberry liqueur and the drinks they make with it.

St. Thomas: Took ferry to St. John for snorkeling at Trunk Bay. Shopped in St. Thomas. We need to go back to see more of St. Thomas.

We needed more time at each port. I don't know why we left the ports so early when it is such a short sail between the islands.

Did you happen to notice if the Golden still has the video game arcade? Did it have the motion-simulated ride also?

We found the same thing with the food in the Horizon Court on the Coral Princess last month. It was very disappointing after RCI's fantastic Windjammer food, selection and variety. The food in the dining room was much better than RCI's though. Guess you can't have it all, unfortunately.

Do you mean the balcony is not private? Also what time were you allowed to embark for the 11 pm sailing? Thanks
