We had a very nice week aboard the Zuiderdam. The weather was great and we enjoyed the islands, especially liked St. Marten. We took the SEE and SEA excursion so learned about and saw more of the island than we would've otherwise. My husband's favorite was the champane sail on St. Thomas. The snorkeling was great there.
Our SS cabin was very nice, suited the 3 of us well. The entertainment was good, the fresh orange juice was the highlite every morning, our dinners were delicious and the service was very good.
The cruise itself was much more tame than the RCC we'd been on before, but that was fine with us. I noticed that the pool and deck furniture was much nicer. Our 14 yr. old son found friends to hang out with at night, so that kept him happy. Make sure you pick up a teen guide when boarding, gives a good itinerary of their activities.
I wish I'd brought along phone cards to go along with the tips. Our dinner server has a 7 mo. old at home and will not see him for 11 more months so he cherishes his phone calls home when he gets a chance to get off of the ship. The staff was quiet, but they work such long hours and I think that it's in their nature to be quiet and reserved.
Anyway, it was a good price for the quality...the laundry service was great...you can fold up a lot of clothes and stuff them into that bag for $12...they come back folded so nicely and they even ironed and hung the shirts! I wouldn't expect a "party till you drop "cruise, but it wasn't overly "country-clubby" either, just kinda in between.
