bad food

I was just on the Carnival Spirt April 17th from San Diego for a 3 day cruise and found the food to be less then acceptable. I have read on this board how good the food was on the Carnival Spirt and could not wait for Dinner the first night but what a let down.

Maybe because it was a three day cruise that they gave the good chefs time off and left the bad ones to take over or maybe they wanted to save money on this cruise I just don't know.

At Breakfast I ordered Oatmeal and Eggs Benedict thinking at the time I ordered too much food, well they had no oatmeal and they brought me only one egg benedict.
Now when one orders eggssssssssssss Benedict it means two which is what I have always received but now I guess I have to look for the s at the end of the word to make sure it means two. Needless to say, I want hungry and had to go to the buffet for more.

This was my first cruise on Carnival and my 5th cruise in all but the worst experience with food I have ever had. Maybe I ordered all the wrong food and the buffet looked good but no flavor. I would rather pay a little more and get better food then be cheap and get home town Buffet which now I consider not so bad.

Also the service was really bad too. When trying to take the Elevator up to our room with all our bags upon getting on board, all the stewards on each floor where blocking the elevator so we could not get on. 10 flights of stairs we had to go up because they were blocking the elevator now what was up with that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So the next time I want to lose some weight I will take a Carnival cruise because they had a beautiful gym to work out in and the worst food I have ever had on a cruise ship which makes for a great combo to lose weight.

When my mom ordered Eggs Benedict on the Pride last March in the formal dining room, she only received one egg as well, so I think that is their policy/standard. As for everything else on the Pride, my family and I were very pleased.

Too each his own...I Loved the food...sorry you had such a bad experience. Must be a matter of "taste", I guess. Perhaps the ship was late in getting ready for the new batch of guests. What were the stewards doing when you saw them?

I would imagine the stewards were delivering luggage to the cabins, but they don't usually block off ALL the elevators. Too bad about the food; we've had just the opposite experience on our Carnival cruises.

Hey

Maybe on 3 day cruises it is different .. Maybe the food is left over from the 7 day cruises thus making it add up to 10 days and I think some cruises are for 10 days so that makes sense to my senseless mind that 10 days of food is all they carry on board at a time .. HMMMMMMMM ......

Now about food .. We are not cruising right now so we cant call room service.and that is terribly distressing to me right now as I could use some tea and some of those lovely brownies they have ..

.I personally have thought we could hire a cook but I cant afford one at home so we will have to cruise to eat I quess ..

On the Fantasy , the dining rooms had great food but the midnight buffet did not have enough food and they did not replenish it and it was also a 3 day cruise ..

and they did not have ENOUGH FOOD ..

so I just blame whoever went on the 4 day cruise before we got on board that they ate to much .. more than there 4 day allotted amount .. That could be the same in your case ..

"The case of the missing eggs ." by Nancy Drew , currently played by Kathy Lee .

Now If I had been on this particular cruise with you .. You could have certainly had my eggs because I dont like them and next time

ASK them for 3 eggs and you might get two .. but dont get any green ham with them .. you can not eat green ham on a boat or was it green eggs ?

hopefully anyway .. you have found something to eat until your next cruise ans If not come on by and I will find something in the cupboard ..

SORRY TO SAY BUT AFTER TAKING A CRUISE ON PRINCESS AND CRYSTAL, I WILL NEVER GO ON THIS LINE AGAIN UNLESS I WIN A FREE PRIZE. I BELIEVE FOR JUST A FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS MORE, PRINCESS DOES A BETTER JOB AND CRYSTAL JUST HAD A SPECIAL FOR A 9 DAYS AT $795.00 WHAT A DEAL THAT SOLD OUT IN JUST A FEW DAYS. ITS LIKE STAYING AT THE FOUR SEASONS WITH GREAT FOOD AND THE FEELING LIKE ITS YOUR OWN PRIVATE SHIP.

I would have to agree that in some ways , well in most ways the food on the other cruise ships is better and they are more titanic like in feel ...

I am glad however that on those ships , the princess etc , it seems the lower you are , the closer to the life boats you are and on some ships on Carnival you are dead in the water if you are on a lower floor because you have to go up maybe to the lifeboats.... or if you are on a bottom floor , you would be engulfed in water ..

Oh well its the feel and yes I would say there is a certainly a difference between ships and my first cruise with carnival did not meet expectations but Im finding that very few ships sail out of florida going to nassau which is what I still want to do so it looks like Carnival it about the only 3 days trip leaving on thursday which is a must for us to cruise ..

Now I know the soveriegn of the seas leaves out of there and I dont know much about it but have heard the rooms are much smaller ..

The food in the dining rooms was good on the Fantasy .. The midnight buffets and the cleanliness of the Lido room are the only things that I would find bad about carnivals food and the fact room service and the ALL NIGHT PIZZA PARLOR closes at 3 am .. on the last day ... so its not 24 hours..

I have been on two carnival, one princess and one RCCL. I have to say that the food on Carnival was just as good as Princess.

I've been on 5 different cruise lines including Carnival. Everyones taste is different. I had no problem with food on Carnival with one exception of the salads. They like to use field greens and I don't care for field greens but that is my preference not a problem with Carnival food. I would gladly go on Carnival again and eat their food. The worst food I have ever had on a cruise, and it was consistantly bad, was on the cruise line known for its great food and that is Celebrity. Everyone at our table had problems with their food. It may have just been a bad cruise but the food in no way detracted from the good time we had.

WEll, I have to admit the quality of the food has declined over the last few years in my view. NOt that the food isnt good its just not what it should be. Many people cruise just to eat & eat & eat. Food is very important to many. Myself included, not that I am a porker because I am not but you pay alot of $$ for the food on these ships and the quality and taste should be tops.

Sure have to wonder about the creditability of this posting. We have been on 38 cruises, 8 on Carnival. Have cruised almost every line including high priced lines. Are they better? Yes. Are they worth the difference in price? Not to me.
Carnival food? One cruise I had a tough steak, a cold meal and generally slow service. Just a bad waiter, the steak was replaced ssslowlyyyy as was the cold meal and just as slow. Otherwise the food was OK. Other CCL cruises food was fairly good to excellent as was the service.
One egg benedict? Well a vet of 5 cruises should know that she could have ordered 10 orders of eggsB if she wanted. What's the big deal.
Stewarts blocking the elevators and had to carry ALL their bags up 10 flights? First they blocked them to deliver the checked bags to the rooms. Second, forward or aft there would be a set of available elevators. And last, I don't know where they cruised but there is no more carryon luggage here in the east. They have a gate on the xray machine that is smallish and if your bags won't fit through the gate [and only small actual carryon sizes will fit] then your bags must be checked thru. This is part of modern security.
Maybe this is a sincere post but I doubt it.

Well for my two cents and what it's worth on the subject of cruise line food. First of all I feel that the subject of food is highly subjective. No two people have the same tastes in food and what one may like others may not. I tend to take comments on food with a grain of salt unless many many people complain about the same ship or line.

As far as Carnival is concerned I have found that their food has actually gotten much better over the years especially with more selections in the lido dining area. Of course the bigger selections are on the newer Spirit/Conquest class ships. I have also found the quality has increased over the years also. I find them to be in line with NCL and RCI of the other mainstream lines that I have cruised in the past.

In general, cruise food has gone down somewhat IMHO due to the size of ships increasing and more passengers aboard. You will not get gourmet food on a mega ship that is trying to feed 1500 passengers in one seating. It is just not going to happen. It can be more matched to what a buffet style restaurant would serve and this is what I have grown to expect. Nothing more and nothing less.

My first two or three cruises were on small ships carrying less than 1000 passengers and the service and food was outstanding. My first cruise was in 1986 on the NCL Starward followed by the Caribe of Commodore Cruise Lines. Cruising also cost much more back in the late 80's and early 90's compared to what we pay today to cruise. If you truly want to experience gourmet food then you will need to look at the luxury lines such as Seabourne, Silver Seas and Crystal. Just my two cents :)

Some of the best food I have eaten has been on Carnival, some of the worst on Celebrity, all in the eye of the guy with the fork in his hand.

Unless food is spoiled is there any such thing as "bad food"
and I would think that the snails they offered onboard Carnival was bad food.

It is in the cooking and all in the tasting but I dont think it is quite a fair FOOD FIGHT when you state that a poster is " lacking credibility "

You might say in friendlier language , "they are lacking your tastebuds"

SaraLee,
I know tastes differ and everyone is intitled to their own opinion. What I meant is exactly what I said.
I suspect it is an insincere post. And I know the troubles you had on another board about folks accusing you so I understand you might be sensitive. But I still have doubts about the above post and I'm intitled to that opinion.

Funny you should mention cake. I just baked a double chocolate fudge cake for my wife last night. Frosted it with canned chocolate fudge frosting but mixed Ghiraldelli double chocolate morsels into the frosting. Barbara, the Queen of the Chocoholics considers this to be a barely adequate cake. ;D

I was on the same cruise- my 4th carnival in 5 months- and found the food wanting, as well.

DIshes I had enjoyed on the other cruises were overdone, cold when should have been hot, slow service, just bad.
I sent food back if I couldn't eat it, for the first time.
I had been on the Elation and the Ecstasy so expected the same food, service or better.
The grill food on Saturday was just awful.
I tried a little bit of just about everything, too
And believe it or not, I'm not one of those picky people who like to complain.
I go to dinner for the social aspect cause I travel solo.

The supper club was magnificent.
I had a window seat as we left the port of Ensenada.
The food was superb, the service awesome.

We didn't leave SD til after 9pm. (ETD- 5:30pm) and our dinner was postponed til 8:45pm for the late seating, which was fine with me.
The ship had just finished a transcanal cruise and was heading out to hawaii ans alaska.
