Balcony or not

Hi,

I'm currently booked on a 4 night cruise with Jewel of the Seas from Oslo to Amsterdam April 21st. I have booked an outside stateroom at deck 3, which means there's only a window to see out from.

I'm wondering about upgrading to a room that has a balcony, but is this worth the extra money? I'm thinking.. Oslo-Amsterdam in April is still very cold, so will it be a waste of money upgrading??

Any thoughts about this?

Thanks for all the answers in advance :)

Four night, freezing cold, no brainer, you answered the question yourself ;) Save your money for important things like hot coffee royals or the local scandinavian hot drink.

I just got off the Jewel, You'll LOVE her!!! The first two cruises(on the Splendour) we had an ocean view-no balcony because it was only my DH and I. But the last two cruises we brought our son/daughter and upped for the balcony, it worked better to give us a little more room if we were all there at the same time. But as stated by BOb and Mbandy, personally I wouldnt spend the extra $$ for it if I wasnt in warm weather. Save the money for nice drinks in the Schooner Bar or Safari Club. Enjoy!!!

The ONLy exception to that rule,is when you cruise Alaska.......its great to have a balcony then......(tu)

Bob said it all, but PH8 raises a good point. Save the $$ this time and spend it when you're cruising in warmer climes.

Thanks for all of the good replies!

I'll then stick with my original ocean view room at deck 3 :)

I was just wondering, since I'm taking my fiance on her first cruise.
Well, i know that this isn't actually a real cruise like the one in caribbean an other places, but the ship sails straight out of Oslo, which we live just ouside of.
She's only been to those "cruise-ferries" between Norway and Denmark so I want this to be a really nice experience for her :)

Do any of you might have any good ideas for some kind of surprice? Is there any specific spa treatments I could get her that you would recomend? Any nice welcome gift packages, etc?

It is a real cruise!!! Keep that in mind(BTW--I have been on that ferry between Norway and Denmark too)......

Anyway, you can do a couples massage.......order flowers for the room ahead of time.......get a bon voyage package........

Not sure if you have the same access as we do to www.rccl.com if so,check out Gifts and Gears....

Oh yea,one more thing.....you can eat at one of the speciality restaurants...Chops(Steak) or Portofino(Italian)....$20PP and very romantic, intimate setting......

Where do you live????I have relatives in Moss,Norway....Im here in Florida...

I was thinking about a couples massage, but we have a 8 1/2 month child with us at the time of the cruise, so I think it's not possible.. I've read something about the child has to be minimun 12month for babysitters, is that correct?

We live in a place called Jessheim, just north of Oslo, next by the Intl Airport. I have a collegue from Moss but thats the only person i know over there :)

One more question.. How are RCCL with table requests in the main dining room? I emailed them, saying that we want a seperate table for us, since we are bringing the little baby. Do you have any idea of the odds of getting our own table?

I will also check out the Gifts and Gears section of the website again.

Yes, the baby had to be a year old(for babysitting).......so go for the gifts instead....flowers, bon voyage decos,etc.......

RCCL may not get you the table you request at first, but as soon as you bOArd,go to the dining room and find your table............if its not what you want, see the maitre de.....he will be there certain hours that afternoon arranging table assignments...We have always gotten what we want.......Im sure he will understand that you want a table for the 3 of us esp since you have baby with you........just make sure you get there ASAP....................sorry,but you'll have to forget about the speciality restaurants..........even thought they allow kids under 13 around 6pm,it really is no place for an infant...

Good luck and God Jul!! =COOL

I would suggest a "sex at sea" package but they have recently really cut back on the quality of their whips and they have started using plastic handcuffs. Really isn't the experience it used to be.
