Balcony worth it?

I think that we may be moving from the Century to the Caribbean for our honeymoon based on somethings that we've heard about the age group differences and the activities aboard the ship. That being said, I recently was on the Disney Wonder and my children and I were booked in a Category 11 inside stateroom, though the room happened to be handicapped so it was huge. I got that room by chance, not by necessity.

Does anyone think that on the Caribbean a balcony would be necessary for two people? Does it really make that much of a difference? I think the price variance that we're looking at is between a $799/pp room and the BB on the Caribe for $919/pp. Any thoughts?

Balcony! Absolutely! Especially on a honeymoon! Once you have had a balcony cabin, you will never settle for another. My husband and I had coffee in the morning and watched "flying fish" in the water. Yes, flying fish. If you decide on the balacony, pack a bungee cord and keep you door open to hear the waves and feel the breeze.

U will love the BB Cat, cabin as it has a VERY nice balcony that allots U a bit of privacy if U wish. The cabin will also be a bit larger than the standard insides but the BIGGEST difference is the balcony on the Caribe deck. Enjoy!!! :tgumb

Good decision.... even if you had to pay the extra $120 pp... it would have been worth it, in my opinion.

If you like to sit by the pools and people watch on sea days or spend very little time in your room in the morning or evenings, then I would not book a balcony cabin. We just had a balcony cabin on the Grand (in a hindicap room) and we loved it. Had a little private sailaway party for us and out traveling companions. Ate breakfast out there at least once (I think). It also provides a good place to view the port as the ship pulls in. Is a great place to relax after shore excursions (and dry out any wet gear) and is nice for a private moment or two as the ship sails through the darkness. Sometimes you can even see other ships in the distance at night. We enjoy having the balcony, but its a matter of personal taste.

You've already received alot of positive comments about balconies, so without trying to reset all of those for you, I'll just add my $.02.

We've been on seven cruises: 3 Insides, 1 Outside, 2 Balconies and 1 Balcony mini-suite with another mini-suite scheduled for this coming October on the Star.

I can't say enough good about how having a balcony completely changes your overall cruise experience, simply put, it is worth it!!! Our most recent cruise (Oct. 2003 on the Grand) was our first time having not just a balcony room, but a mini-suite as well, and it was great!!!

This was mostly because we took our four-year-old daughter on her first cruise and we wanted the extra room that a mini-suite provides. Having the extra space, plus the extra TV (that way I didn't have to watch Sleeping Beauty all week!) and having a bathtub instead of just a shower made the mini-suite the best choice for us and thus improving our overall cruise experience.

I can only imagine how things would've been had we chose an inside cabin rather than the mini-suite. #1 no balcony, #2 no tub (my daughter prefers tub baths) #3 no extra TV, and I would've been stuck watching Lilo & Stitch for seven days (along with all the other movies we brought with us) with no place to escape to without having to leave the room, and #4 the pull-down bunk, which I'm certain I would've ended up sleeping on for fear that my daughter would rolled off of it in the middle of the night.

Bottom line: Balconies. . . they're a good thing!!!!!

Bon Voyage,

J. Tirello

Ok .... you all are getting me waaaay more excited about this Oct. honeymoon than I can stand here on a rainy cold Boston day in April!!!! I'm very happy that I changed cruises. We had been battling the switch for a couple of months and I just think that a newer boat with more of a younger crowd is the way to go!!! That balcony will definitely be used each night for cocktail hour before dinner :)

I think the balcony is great :thumb I don't think you will have much of an age difference between the two ships as you might have thought though. Princess in general attracts about the same age group as Celebrity, we have sailed on both the Century and the Grand and there really wasn't any age difference to speak of . But I think you made a good choice for a wonderful honeymoon cruise. You would have enjoyed the Century because it is a wonderful ship with plenty to do, but the Caribbean is brand new and has several pools including the solarium one as well as many other things like the movie screen etc. so you should have a very wonderful honeymoon :thumb

:wave :cheers to your upcoming honeymoon ! We love Princess and have never had a bad cruise experience on the line. We had an outside picture window once and then switched to a balcony. We've gone with balconies from that time on. Couldn't ever go back to anything less. =COOL =COOL =bigwave
