Not sure about the beaches, but Carlisle Bay is a good place to snorkel and dive. My wife took a horseback trip and loved it. And there is always the Mount Gay Rum Factory.

Wonderful beaches - don't need to take a ship sponsored excursion - any cabbie at the terminal (which is one of the finest and cleanest in the Caribbean, by the way) will take you to a great beach. They know the best spots and will steer you right.

Make sure you eat some flying fish - an island tradition - wonderfully sweet little deep fried fish, kind of like smelt. The Cave Shepard shops in the terminal and downtown are nice department stores with good souvenier items. The little bar just outside the terminal is a good place for a cold beer after a long day of beach and shopping and right next to the ship so you don't have to worry about getting back in time.

Don't remember specific names of beaches but trust the cabbies and you will be fine. It's a safe and clean island and people are friendly and courteous to tourists.

Bon Voyage!

Cranes Beach is spectacular, voted top ten in the world. it's on the other side of the island. If you share a cab with someone on the ship its not abad price at all. The cabs drops you off at the hotel overlooking the beach . 5 bucks to get in but you get a cocktail and use of their bathroom. It's not for smokers though, cause you have to walk a lot of stairs to get to the beach. But it's worth it. going back again in January..Have fun. Laura

We are going on Royal Caribbean in January, and were considering the Catamaran lunch and snorkeling tour in Barbados. Has anyone done this or something similar? This is the day of our 10th anniversary, and we wanted to do something memorable. Thoughts and suggestions are appreciated!

From my Legend review last December:

Barbados
After lunch we walked into town, about a 20 minute walk. We located the bus terminal across from St. Mary’s church, and for 75 cents per person, each way, we rode about 20 minutes to Folkestone Park, the national underwater park and beach just beyond Holetown. Entrance is free, and there are restrooms, showers, souvenirs and refreshments, picnic tables, a children’s playground, and chair rentals ($5). At high tide the sandy beach is limited, but there are plenty of sunny areas. Snorkeling is best over the reef about 100 yards offshore to the right of the beach in front of the rocks to the right. Nice coral and schools of multicolored fish….hundreds in a school. Water was very clear. Took the bus back to town and shopped at Harrison’s, downtown, then took a taxi for $5 to The BoatYard, a beachfront bar and grill with water sports, trampoline, rock climb, and a great bar/music with inexpensive drinks ($2 beer and $3 rum punch). Taxi to ship $6 at 7pm. Most shops in the cruise terminal closed at 7pm, but a few were open till 8.
