Hello all -

How far are the beaches (whether they're free or a hotel use fee) from the docks in Grand Cayman and Ocho Rios. My husband and I are planning on doing a shore excursion in each, but would also love to just HANG OUT on the beach somewhere...

Are they within walking distance? Cab distance (if so, how much and how far)? What are the best beaches in each port? I'm thinking we'd like to go to a hotel's beach (would we be able to buy drinks there?).

Thank you so much!! This website is EXCELLENT!!! We are first time cruisers (sept 2005), and I've learned SO MUCH from all of you! What a great site!!

Pam & Kate,

I can't tell you much about Ocho Rios beaches because we took a catamaran excursion to Dunns River Falls. My husband enjoyed the climb up, I'm a little short for some of the climbing and exited half way up.

Grand Cayman...7 Mile Beach is a must!!! This is the beach you always dream about! We spent most of our time shopping and only 2 hours at the beach. Next time we plan to spend all our time on the beach! We booked the excursion through our ship. We paid for a taxi to take us to a hotel (can't remember the name but it was included in our excursion details) and this got us a lounge chair, a complimentary drink and access to restrooms and outdoor shower. The bar was available to purchase as many drinks as you like.

The taxi ride was about 15 minutes. There are also public access points between some of the hotels, if you don't want to pay to enter through a hotel access point.

We were first time crusiers (Voyager of the Seas, RCI) when we visited Grand Cayman.
Now we're hooked! Our next is booked for June 2005 with Southern Caribbean destinations!

Have a Great Time!

Georgia

If you go to Margaritaville in Ocho Rios right off the ship and buy a drink you will get a wristband to use the beach all day. It is right near the pier. They rent jet skis and the like. I am sure there are other beaches, but this one is very convenient. You could look into an all-inclusive for the day, but that's up to you. We were there in Jan 03.

I second the vote for 7 mile beach in GC. We haven't been there yet, but will be there in January. Have fun.
