Bedding on Princess vs. RCC

I recently took a cruise on RCC Legend of the Seas and the bedding was great! Duvet covers, multiple pillows, top of the line mattress, and hotel class sheets. Does anyone know if Princess has the same quality of bedding now? Or if they have plans to upgrade the bedding and if so when? I have taken several Princess cruises about 5 years ago and more and thinking of returning after trying Celebrity and RCC but hesitate over the bedding....

We just got off of the Emerald Princess. The bedding was not bad but not near as good as Royal Caribbean. We had kind of a silky bottom sheet and a matching comforter on top of that. No top sheet. The bed was a little hard in our opinion but not uncomfortable. We were on The Freedom last Feb and that bedding was really great.

We were on the Emerald along with Wuollebear and the other Grt8 ESCAPEEs and we loved the bed and the linens. Yes the bed was firm, but not quite a firm as our bed at home. It was nicely padded on top of the firmness, so we thought it was very comfortable.

About the missing top sheet, we spoke to our room steward and he said they only put the top sheet on if you request one. He put one on there when he made the bed up that day.

:thumbwow why would someone want to have a comforter that touched god knows how many people touching their skin.....not me I always put the comforter on the ground. So my upcoming cruise on the princess they had better have a top sheet for me.

That was a concern of ours too, comforters that others used. Outside the door we noticed they had a bin for the used comforters each day and new ones were placed on the bed. Still, why no top sheet? I wish we would have asked about it as Gayle did.

I'm new to cruising (taking my first in November). I've been told you can ask for a foam pad to go on top of the mattress. Has anyone used the foam mattress? Does it help?

Hello Deborah, We've never asked for the foam pad, but I honestly don't think you'd need it. The bed was quite comfortable. I'm sure if you want softness it would help that.

About the comforters, if you looked closely at the bottom edge of the comforter, you would see that it comforter is actually inside a big envelope like cover. The opening of it was at the bottom edge, and that's the only place that would show this.. The comforter itself could be removed from the "envelope" and the cover washed separately. So if you used it without the top sheet, I'm sure you would be getting clean linens next to your skin, just like the sheet. I only wanted the sheet because I sometimes want only the sheet to sleep under,

Just proves there are different strokes for different folks.....as I too (along with Wuollebear) that the mattressess were not as comfortable as RCL (or CCL). And Gayle was right that the comforters were inside a linen duvet cover that is laundered and changed.

We always request a Egg Crate mattress topper and it DOES make a world of difference in our opinion. U can also request feather pillows and they are pretty decent and MUCH better than the foam ones used. :thumb

I know HAL and RCCL (including Celebrity) all have new pillowtop mattresses and, of COURSE, top sheets. Yeeesh. So, I guess I should expect a rough night's sleep on the Ruby? Maybe since she's new they'll have nice bedding...I hope.

Our experience with Princess regarding the new bedding is we have cotton bottom sheet, cotten duvet THEN the decorative bedspread that the cabin steward removes each night and puts back on when he makes the bed. We just found out that you can requset an "eggcrate" if mattress is too firm for your liking. Has anyone heard about this???

Geez Louise - EVERYONE has upgraded to pillowtop. I mean, I know Carnival never will....but you really don't think the new Ruby will have pillowtop? It's the standard now.

Egg crate isn't going to make it feel like a pillowtop, that's for sure.

While Princess is a our line of choice, the bedding has not been up to our experiences with RCC. Our last cruise was on the Grand Princess and the bed was definitely needing to be replaced. We always use an egg crate but it helped very little. We maybe should have asked for a second egg crate but we did not so that should be on us, not the cruise line. Our room attendant was outstanding so I am sure that he would have gotten it for us. The Grand Princess was my favorite ship except for this one point. All of the other Princess trips there were acceptable and we had not complaints.

On Princess ships, we always request the egg crate mattress cover and it is always very comfortable. Just like a pillow top mattress. Some people like em hard and some like em soft. Thats why they give you the choice.

Just like a pillow top? Hmmm....not MY pillowtop!! LOL
An egg crate is no Sealy Posturepedic Super Plush Pillowtop.

I always have a top sheet at home under the duvet but none of my friends do and say that the point of a duvet is that your body heat, heats up the duvet and that heat is lessened with a top sheet.
I went on the Emerald and the bedding was superb like they have in five star hotels these days, the sort of white with a satiny stripe. The mattress was brill too but mine at home is hard and supposedly good for ones back
