Think we decided we want to do the cave tubing thing in Belize. I have a couple of questions however. Since we are first timers should we book through the ship or on our own. If on our own any suggestions on tour operators.

Do a search in this forum for "cave tubing".... there were a few tour operators that others really had a good time with, "Xtreme"? and someone else...

About the only real risk with using an independent tour operator is getting back to the boat in time. If you do elect to take an independent tour instead of a tour booked thru the ship, make sure the guide knows what time you have to be back in Belize time. Sometimes Belize time and ship time are an hour apart. If you want to be totally risk free but pay more $$$ then book thru the ship.

We've been on 7 cruises and this past winter booked our cave tubing thru X-Stream Tours for much less than the ship excursion. It was tight for time in our case but we made it back with about 15 minutes to spare for the last tender back to the ship. If you are interested in them check out <http://belizecruiseexcursions.com/CaveTubingBelize.htm>

Another popular independent operator is Reggie Trapp "Regtours"

We also did the X-stream trip as well and it was wonderful!!!! Definitely recommend it!!

I prefer to book them on our own simply because you get away from the big crowds and they are usually cheaper as this one was, much cheaper and we got a longer trip with more caves!!!

Is it possible to book some of these excursions when you get off the ship? I'm hesitant to pay for them ahead of time in case we have to reroute due to weather. (going in September)

Better to book ahead of time in my opinion. Generally, these outfits will refund any deposits if the ship cannot get into port.

Yes with X-stream they set the trip time so that it worked with our ship. By the way, our group was only Inspiration people so we didn't have to wait for people on other ships.

Keep in mind the meeting time is Belize time and for us it was a 2 hour time difference from the ship but when I asked about the early meeting time they explained it to me and it worked well. We were brought back to the port in plenty of time before the ship left.

X-Stream website says that they do refund if your ship can not come into port due to weather or if they cancel the trip because of weather.

We used Reggie two years ago and had a wonderful time. Great person! Had no problems getting back to ship on time. He knows the routine of the cruise ships. We even had time for a quick Belize lunch and belize beer for $1 each on our way back to the ship. Use Reggie......he is great!!!!!

We did the Shark/Ray Alley tour with Coral Breeze (http://www.coralbreezelimited.com). We had 5 people in my family, and about 12 persons total. We had a great time and swam with sharks and rays. We also snorkeled near the drop off of the second largest reef in the world.

I highly recommend CBL for the tours. They were very pleasant with our group despite our ship arriving late. We still got to do everything we wanted and arrived back in plenty of time to get the ship. They make sure of it.

Also, we had lunch on Caye Caulker as part of the package. My entire family, including the kids, really enjoyed the lunch and then walking around Caye Caulker. They don't have cars on the island, and so walking is a must, and enjoyable.

Check out CBL web site. You can view pictures and book online. It is the most stress free tour we have taken.

Hope this helps.
