Belize one last time

Our family of five was going to go tubing and the adults were going to watch. We were advised not to go. So now we are faced with having to find another excursion on short notice.

The ship excursions have an age limit to snorkel so we need to find non ship ones. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated ASAP.

Thanks.

Eric, Belize is tricky. It is a rather new port. It is not very developed. I don't know of any tour guides in Belize. We wanted to hit the beach. I did some research. We walked to the water taxi stand and took a water taxi to Caye Caulker. Although there is a place to swim it is not a beach and I think it is shallow until you go way out. There were tours you could take from there. They were probably all day and they were probably diving not snorkeling although I am not sure. If I go again I am going to try to get more info. on the other water taxi stop-San Padre. It is where temptation island was filmed but I don't know if swimming is within walking distance of the pier or if there are any facilities nearby. If you golf it is expensive but it is a great excursion.

Eric, We are considering a Western Caribbean trip with our 2 boys (ages 7 and 9) who both love to snorkel and were looking forward to snorkeling with them in Belize. We were thinking of the ship's Shark Alley excursion, but would have to reconsider if their is an age limit. What ship are you on and which excursion were you considering? How did you learn of the age limit? I'd be interested to learn what you are doing. Good luck. Does anyone else know anything about this?

The Celebrity brochure says that you must be 12 to snorkel on almost all the excursions. When I called Celebrity about it, they said that we could talk to the people on board and they have the right to change it.

Celebrity also allows you to cancel prebooked shore excursions up to the day before. I probably should have booked it and then cancelled on the ship rather than waiting to find out if it was ok after we board.

Why have you decided not to do the cave tubing? It sounds great! Don't let the walking part scare you. I have contacted a tour group, Mayawalk Adventure (Lenny) and he has been so helpful. We have some younger kids and some adults who aren't in that great of shape and he says "no problem man". E-mail him if you want more info.

Sounds like there isn't much elses to do but explore in Belize. All the ship excursions are way over priced. We have sailed well over 20 times and now it just makes me mad what they charge people....but if you aren't sure and need that structure, go for it.

Also, Lenny doesn't mind that we have a few under 12. Best of luck.

I am taking my 2 boys (one is under 12) on a private excursion with Sea Sport Belize. They have a website- you can look them up. They said that as long as the kids can swim, they can snorkel. I also asked if they provide lifejackets for snorkeling and they said yes, which is great because I want one!

We used Sea Sports Belize, along with another family. There were a total of four kids in our party, an 11 year old, an 8 year old, my 7 1/2 year old son and a 6 year old. They all used lifejackets and snorlkeled. They were fine - we had a great time!! I recommend this operator highly!

When using Sea Sports Belize, did they pick you up at the ship and return you back on time ? How long was the snorkelling trip from start to finish ? We may be there in Jan and I wrote them about making up a fishing and snorkelling combo trip, but haven't heard back. How was the lunch they provided ? Did you get free water/drinks too ? How many people were on your trip ? Thanks !

3dogsmom, they did not pick us up at the ship. We had to tender into port (an exciting ride!!!)and we met the staff at the offices, a short walk into town. They did, however, drop us off at the ship in plenty of time. I'd guess that the snorkeling itself was about an hour, not including the trip out to the Cay and back to the boat. The staff at SeaSports will customize a trip for you. We really enjoyed our wildlife trek down the Belize river, prior to snorkeling.

Lunch was so-so. tuna sandwiches, chips, candy bars for dessert, fresh pineapple (yum!) and soda. Yes, they provided free water and drinks. You are in Central America - you need to drink alot - it's brutal down there, much more than in a caribbean island.

Out trip consisted of two families. There were 8 of us - four adults, four kids age 6-11. You may want to email them for a faster reply. I'd highly recommend them.

Thanks to all of you for some good information, we are interested in snorkelling in Belize. I have heard of both Coral Breeze and Sea Sports, can anyone share any personal experiences with either company? Value for the dollar? Attention to detail? Did you get what you wanted, what was advertised, and would you be a repeat customer?
