I'm getting a little nervous because I have read lots about the excursions on belieze but it seems that no one has taken the one where you go down a river for 20 miles and end up at the zoo. Has anyone taken this? Is this the "river of no return?". Hope I made a good decision.

Don't worry too much-- I have been to Belize a couple of times. Once we took an all day trip to the interior to some Mayan sites. The second time we took a shorter trip to so Mayan sites and a cruise on the river Wallace. We enjoyed both, but you always have some people who don't like anything.
Some excursions will always be better than others, but that's life. Go and enjoy. If, for some reason your excursion wasn't exactly what you thought it would be, at least you can say hey, we went and gave it a shot. How many times do you get an opportunity to go to Belize?
Loosen up, go and I bet you will have a great time.

We were in Belize this past November. I also was nervous because of all the negative things I had heard.I was also determined to keep an open mind and enjoy our experience.
My daughter loves monkeys and was dying to see them in the wild. We took the river Wallace tour and ended up at the ruins. My parents were also with us. We all had a great time. The river ride was very interesting. We saw all kinds of wildlife including a troop of Howler Monkeys!!!!
The only caution I have for you is that the boats we were on had no canopy-thus you were in the sun for a few hours-this doesn't bother me but you will need to be sure you have sun block especially if you have kids or burn easily.

All in all we loved Belize and I would love to go back and explore it further. Of course there were areas that we run down and dirty but I quess its all what you make it and what portions of your trip you dwell on!!

Enjoy your trip and I would love to hear your thoughts on the zoo when you return>

thanks you two. And both of you are right. It's all about attitude. I do believe we will have a great time no matter what excursions we take. (at least short of the boat sinking!) I think that's what I was referring to was the shape of the river boats. I want to see crocs but not too closely. I can't wait to leave and see what I know will be beautiful country. Thanks.

I was on this tour over Christmas and had a fabulous time. Our tour guide, Peter, was amazing. He shared so much information with us about the history of Belize as well as all the flora and fauna of the country. The zoo was a really nice experience (different from North American zoos). The animals are somewhat tame, so they tend to sit near the fences giving great views. The trip to the zoo was followed by a ride down the Belize River. The whole way we were spotting many of the animals we had seen in the zoo. The only downside to the tour was that it rained while we were in the boat (not covered) and ended up getting fairly wet).
