Hi,

We're looking at the dollars and options and would love some help: What's your must-do, nowhere-else-on-earth, well-worth-the-dollars, excursion? We cruise 8/27-9/3, followed by 7 days in an RV.

Ones that sound intriging so far:

Ketchikan:
Misty Fjords flightseeing
Traitor's Cove bear observatory (Anan's season is about done, we're told)

Skagway:
Glacier Bay flightseeing (because Celebrity doesn't go through Glacier)
Dog sledding and glacier flightseeing

Juneau
Tracy Arm flightseeing
Tracy Arm boating
Mendenhall flightseeing and trekking
Mendenhall helicoptering
Admiralty Island bear viewing

Seward
Kenai Fjords cruise

Anchorage: Mt. Mckinley flightseeing

Also: if the ship docks at 7 a.m., is that firm? Can you easily plan on an 8 a.m. excursion?

Thanks!

Would you consider horseback riding? I went on that with Southeast Tours and I loved it. They pick you up at the dockside in a nice van and take you into the Yukon past the town of Carcross and up past Emerald Lake to their ranch their. They give you safety instructions and assign horses to you according to your skill. The guide gives you a narrated tour of the surrounding area. The scenery is just beautiful, especially Emerald Lake from the hilltop overlooking the lake. After a the ride they gave us a snack and refreshment in their unique looking cookshack. There is plenty of opportunities for photos and stops along the way. The driver gave an excellent narration of any significant historical sites in the area. The drive is so beautiful especially along the two lakes with towering mountains so close up. I really enjoyed myself - the guides were friendly, helpful and experienced. I recommend it to anyone who might enjoy the outdoors. If you interested you might check out their sight which is www.southeasttours.com - and key in Yukon Horseback Riding Adventures.

Flightseeing should be from Talkeetna! They are the best! White water rafting in Chickaloon (just north of Palmer) is a MUST - Plus there is a Monster-truck excursion that is unbeliveable into Denali National Park. It really isn't as wild as it sounds. The trucks are built big to go through rivers and bog, to get you to the back country. Feel free to e-mail me if you want to have some help. corky@1anchorsaway.com
