We'll be docking in St. Thomas from 7 am til 5 pm in January and want to spend the day in St. John, as we've previously explored St. Thomas.

What are the best beaches for snorkeling that are relatively easily accessible by taxi from the ferry dock in St. John?

And any general suggestions for enjoying St. John. (We have our own snorkel gear). Thanks.

We went on our own to the famous Trunk Bay on St John in March, but were disapointed by the snorkling trail. Way too crowded. If you can get there early it might be better, but we didn't get there till after 1 pm. There are lots of other nice beaches on St. John, that are less crowded.

I went to Cinammon Bay last year. It was much less crowded than Trunk, in fact when we got there in the morning there were less than a dozen people there. The donkeys on the beach almost outnumbered the people. The snorkeling was good, but I havent been to Trunk so I cant compare it to there. At the very least it was much more relaxing. There are restrooms there and a place for snacks or to rent gear. If I remember right it was only another 5 minute ride past Trunk to get there and there were always taxis coming by to take people back to the Ferry.
