There are about five hotels that are very near the dock. I would recommend the closer the bvetter. There is the Bayside Market Place, right on the water near the pier, and a couple of hotels are within walking distance of it. Nice place to hang out a day before a cruise. Hotel wise, stay away from the Riande Continental, the Leamington is ok, but the Holiday Inn Port of Miami is probably the best in terms of being right by the port.

Last time we sailed out of Miami, it was just my hubby & I. We were going for a 4 day cruise so we thought that we would splurge on the hotel, and really make it seem like we were gone longer....we chose the fantastic Mandarin Oriental. Man oh man. It was the best. I wish it wasn't so expensive. But in our situation at that time it was great. There were 4 poster beds on their private beach, the view was great, the food, the drinks, the room was unbelievable. So if you can afford to add that much on to your cruise, this is the place! I am now currently looking to add a pre-cruise hotel in Miami for March for my hubby, son and myself. Unless the Mandarin Oriental should slash prices, we won't be staying there this time, but I'll be looking at it when we sail away!

Good Luck hotel shopping, and I'll be watching to see what others post.

I'm developing a history of finding places with lower prices and quarks that come with them. Be that as it may, I have staid at what was a Best Western just across the street from the marketplace. Not bad, but the service was as bad as anything I've experienced. Thankfully its now under new management and brand name as I understand it.

Earlier this year, prior to a cruise on Navigator of the Seas, I staid at what was a "new" Extended Stay America. It appears to have been the conversion of a former apartment building from what I can tell. I sensed there were an above average number of people who were actually full-time residents. Still, it was clean, quite. And it was exceptionally near the port. As I drive to Miami, that makes a difference.

In any case, you can get pretty cheap hotel rooms in decent places. But you might not get the view some people crave.
