Better whale watching in Cabo or Puerto Vallarta in January?

We are cruising to Mexico Jan 17 on Mariner of the Seas. I know it's whale season. Does anyone know if the whale watching is better in Cabo vs Puerto Vallarta? My husband and I plan to take a catamaran excursion rather than a Zodiac because I am on chemo and the Zodiac trip talked about seasickness. Thanks.

Hi, my advise is to use binoculars as soon as you can go outside on deck on the second day of your cruise. You will see porporsies sp swimming towards Mexico. They are fun to watch.
All the whales go to the Sea of Cortez to have their babies. The city of Loretto, Mexico, and other small Mexican towns is where you can really see the whales. Large ships don't go to the sea of Cortez.

I have cruised on the RCL Mariner of the seas and I didn't see any whales anywhere. But be on the look out every day out on deck and maybe you will get to see a whale before the ship passes Cabo cruising towards Puerto Vallarta.

The Cabo ocean is too rough and the small boats go up and down a lot. Don't do a boat tour. You will get sea sick since you have an illness. You want to stay safe.

Thank-you so much for your thoughtful reply. I especially appreciate the part about the rough seas in Cabo. I will definitely take care of myself and I will warn my deep sea fishing friends to take sea sickness pills before their outing in Cabo.
I don't visit this site nearly often enough, but I love Cruise@ddicts. You are a terrific group of people!
