Beverage Packages on RCCL

Has anyone purchased the wine package onboard the RCCL ships? Apparently you can pre-order to have a bottle of wine of your choice either in the dining room with dinner every night, or to enjoy in your room. Is this an economical way to order wine, is there any savings doing it this way, or is it better to just order wine as you go at dinner? I was going to pack a couple of bottles of wine in my luggage, but after reading the posts about bringing alcohol on board, I think I will forgo that idea.

Thanks for your input,
Minnie.

As for the cost effective way, i dont know. But what i do know is you will have to watch because RCCL charges a fee to open the bottle douring dinner. That could get rather pricy. And yes it was a good idea to forgo that idea because they will take it from you.

We ordered the wine package our last cruise....If I recall correctly, you have a choice of different class(good, better, best) and can pick from that. We chose the 5 bottle package, and even tho there wasnt any wine left in the bottle after dinner, I did see that if you happen not to finish it at dinner, they will put it away with your name on it for the next dinner-that way youre not throwing wine away...and we cant have that....LOL

Hey,

Thanks for your message. I think you are right. There are so many hidden costs that I think we will have to look into this more carefully. I notice on the RCCL website that they don't give a cost for this package. (I bet it changes frequently). Our friends insist they are putting wine in their luggage. Will they be refused boarding if they find their wine? =huh

:)o Thanks for telling me about your experience. I think we will check into it further, but haven't decided whether it's worth it or not. I love wine with my dinner, but another option might be to just order a glass. Thanks again for your quick reply.

My wife and I purchased the wine package for our 5 night Empress Cruise in 2005. We enjoy wine, but found that we eventually had too much 'stored up', since you can carry over the remaining from the night before. Eventually, at the last night we had to use it all up, so we ended up sharing our surplus with our table mates. They were a great group, and we didn't mind, but in the future, we will not give in to the hard sell when we board, and drink a la carte glasses..

We use the wine package all the time. There have been only one or two times in our 40+ cruises that we have not uise all of it. On those occasions we brought the botles home.

There is NO fee to open the bottle and it DOES save you money.

I beg to differ. Every time we have ordered wine my family has been charged to open it. I want your waiters if they didnt charge you.
