I currently have a resi for cabin 12020 on Norwegian Dawn. Received an email to bid for an upgrade. If I bid the minimum of $550pp to upgrade to a two BR, can someone else bid the same or do they need to bid a higher amount? Do I then have a chance to outbid them? Do I receive any notices as to any other bids?
In my experience (not on NCL BTW) you have one chance to bid for an upgrade (or bid on upgrades for multiple different categories). The winners are selected just a very few days before the cruise and you either win, or not as has always been my case. However, we have had already the high end of each category and the next step up would have been painful, so I always bid low and got the results that I expected; thanks but no thanks.
I will add that these days ships are almost always fully booked except for maybe some high end suites, which makes bidding difficult. For example, we usually always book a starter level suite to get the suite "perks". The next step up is always a lot more than what we would to spend for sometimes little benefit. So, we always bid low with no expectation of winning.
If booked in a lower cost cabin a bid to move up may be more successful.
