Birth certificates/passports

Help! How picky is Carnival on birth certificates? My husband has a county certified birth certificate. We ordered a state certified birth certificate from California three weeks ago and they tell us it will take another month (two days into our cruise). We applied today for an expedited passport but I'm terrified it won't come in time. Argh! This has just been a nightmare.

When we sailed in May of this year my 9 year old only had the birth certificate issued by the county that she was born in. As long as it has a raised gold seal on it then you should be fine. No one said anything to me about my daughters birth certificate. I hope this helps.

How were you able to get a passport without a Birth certificate? If they took THAT birth certiifcate for a passport they will take it for the cruise.
The only birth certiifcate you can use is the one the hospitals give you-- ya know the ones with the feet on them.

As long as your Birth Certificate has a raised seal you should be fine, you can also expidite a Birth certificate, My husband received his in 3 days from the State of South Carolina.

I beg to differ-- we were told the hospital-issued birth cert (with the feet) was NOT good enough-- it needs to be government-issued (not sure if they specified state or county) with the raised notary-style (not gold) seal.

LOL, I think Serene meant to say the only b/cert. they WON'T accept is the hospital-issued one, as it's not a legal document, but a hospital 'keepsake' so to speak.

The b/cert. doesn't necessarily have to have a raised seal. Many states have done away with this, and issue b/certs on the state watermark paper, and the seal isn't raised. BUT the main thing is that it must be a state-issued b/cert.

FYI, it's not only Carnival that wants the correct forms of ID. Since 9/11, Homeland Security is the one who makes the rules on ID for folks to re-enter the states.
