Just returned from a 2 week Panama Canal cruise. I was with a party of 10. We all had aft staterooms (4 of them) on Sky Deck. The noise from the scraping of the wooden deck chairs on the Teak deck from the Oceanview Bar and buffet area above was unbearable to say the least. From 5 AM until about midnight EVERY DAY made this the worst cruising experience we've ever had. This was our fourth cruise, 3 RCL and the 1st with and LAST with Celebrity. I could go on and on but that's it for now. Reply if you want answers.

I wouldnt want some wooden deck chairs to ruin my business with a cruise line. Next time, make sure your room isnt directly above or under discos, pools, or in your case, the bar. Celebrity is THE best premium-cruise level line out there; make sure you sail with them again!

I think in the name of passenger satisfaction Celebrity should have some type of disclaimer stating that there is a great deal of noise from above on this floor. Instead of hearing from the Head Purser that there is nothing that can be done at this time and offering us some ear plugs and the 800 number for Celebrity customer service. I can't believe that we were the first complaints about the noise in the ships 3 years of service
As far as "THE best premium-cruise level line out there" we were not impressed. We've cruised on the Rhapsody, Voyager, and the Vision from RCCL. We had heard that Celebrity was a notch above RCCL in all aspects of cruising, but found that not to be true with our group of 10. Celebrity seemed to nickel and dime you to death for everything. We had not encountered on RCCL a waiter coming by the dinner table the first night (and every other morning, noon, and night) trying to sell bottled water. The one shining star for Infinity is their specialty restaurant it was excellent for an additional $30 per person. This is getting to long.
Bye for now.

We recently traveled on the Constellation and encountered the same problem. We were in Concierge Class which is located directly below a public area. Our problem, however, was not as severe as the original poster.

The one problem we did have which was resolved after the first few days [14 day cruise] which was the washing apparatus being parked outside the cabin adjacent to ours. They did move it on the first port day after reporting it. It was then parked in front of someone else's cabin who I imagine did not complain as much as did I. We informed our TA on our arrival home that we had had a partially obstructed cabin for the first days of the cruise. She contacted Celebrity but never received a response.

Guess it's back to Princess.

But did you have a good time? Was the food good? How about your state of mind? Did this little burp ruin the whole cruise for you?

We've had a bad cabin location on the Grand Princess, but it didn't ruin the cruise. I have tried to look at each cabin assignment over the years with an eye to discos, public areas, food prep areas, theaters, etc., and only failed twice (once over the main showroom--late night show "live and direct," and once under the lido bar-with a night of line dancing lasting until 2:00 am on our heads!). While the location of your cabins horizontally were the best on the ship, I will have to say you suffered vertically! Better luck next time!

Hopefully, I did not imply that the problem had ruined my cruise. I was only responding to the orignial poster's report and to add some info pertaining to Concierge Class on Constellation.

I previously submitted a cruise report which is available if one wants to search back. The 'burp' was mentioned in that report.

Wow. Sorry to hear about your experience. I loved Infinity and the outdoor lounge on the back of deck 10 was one our favorite spots. Great place to watch the sunset on the inside passage.

Hope you have a better experience next time. :thumb

The concierge class cabins on sky deck were originally called 1A cabins. There was so much complaining about those cabins that nobody wanted to book them, they would drop down to 1B's. and 1C's. celebrity had the brainstorm of doing something unique to get people to book them by making them concierge class and it worked. unfortunately now Celebrity is changing all of the category 1 cabins to concierge class so they are going to go right back to people only wanting the concierge cabins that are not on sky deck. This to me was a HUGE mistake on Celebrity's part.

There are large overhangs on most of the balconies on sky deck, lots of beams connected with those balconies that are unsightly. Then the noise from the deck above. When they made those cabins concierge class, then people wanted to book them and could accept the drawbacks connected with those cabins, because of all the perks that Celebrity added so people would stay in those cabins. It was a brilliant marketing strategy on Celebrity's part to make those undesirable cabins attractive. Now they are right back where they started from, I personally would not book a concierge class cabin on sky deck, I would book one on another deck. Celebrity, what were you thinking???

Thomaseu, that BURP question was to the original poster. You didn't sound like you were very negative about your experience, or that it ruined your trip.

Thanks Globug! I guess I was getting a little 'testy'. No It didn't ruin my trip. In fact, my friends never ask me to recommend a trip or restaurant as I always tend to have a good time or a good meal.

Booking a cabin on a cruise ship is like buying real estate - the three most important things to consider are location, location and location. A good travel agent should have alerted you to the fact that your cabin was situated beneath a potentially noisy public area.

That's why we usually take a room between two cabin decks--to avoid the problemm Although on Mercury our room just below the pool deck & buffet was just fine! We booked almost the same one for another cruise. Also do not like overhangs

We had a Jr. Suite on the Monarch that was right under the pool area. We heard one noise, one time, for about 10 seconds or less. I guess we were lucky!

One of the first things I learned from this board was the importance of packing the Right Attitude!

The "Right Attitude" was there at the start, but two weeks of noise from 5AM to midnight from the scraping deck chairs sure changed that. Good luck with your cruise.
