Booking/upgrading future cruises on board

A couple questions here, and an admission that I'm kicking myself for not booking a phantom cruise while on board the Grand.

First, how long are the phantom cruise bookings valid, and do I need to provide TA information when booking?

Second, if I have a cruise booked but wish to modify or upgrade the booking, will the future cruise director be able to handle such a request?

Thx in advance,

HI Rob,
I had been wondering why you did not book a phantom while onboard the Grand. Just make a mental note next time as it is a very small investment with some great benefits.

Our cruise that we booked two weeks ago must be booked within the next two years (by 2005) You can either assign a TA to it right then and there as we did (Lori received a copy already of our booking by fax from Princess) or you can leave it open, find a TA later and then fax a letter to Princess assigning it to a specific TA.

As for the modify/upgrade question, I am not sure what you are talking about on that one so I am going to guess a bit. When you book a phantom onboard, you do not choose your category or sailing, all of that can be done at a later date. All this booking is, is a deposit on a future cruise. You choose the cruise, cabin category and such later on. So you aren't commited to just one type of cabin or anything like that. You are free to book whatever you like at a later date. That is why we always book phantoms instead of trying to decide while onboard which cruise we want to take later on.

Hope this answers your questions.

These bookings are a great way to make a very small deposit on a cruise and also get extra cruise credits (which can be added to anything your TA might offer as far as onboard credits for that sailing). It ties up so much less money than doing it the regular way. I know that last year, our deposit on a back to back was going to be $1600 but since we used two phantom bookings it was only $400, which we had already paid on our last cruise.. So we did not tie up so many funds for a long period of time.

I was just curious if the on-board personnel could modify a future cruise that I've already booked through a TA. For example, could I change a 7-day to a B2B, or upgrade cabins if they checked prices and could make me "a deal I can't refuse", such as a cheap upgrade to a suite. I was wondering if anyone had done this.

I just did a phantom booking and we were told that it was good for 4 years! I don't know about changes being handled while onboard. I didn't see anyone doing that - just future bookings.

Wow Debra, we have booked phantom bookings twice and they have never been good for over two years, you got one heck of a deal there.

Rob,
Once you have booked through a TA they are the only ones that can make any changes on an exisiting booking. Princess will not do much for you, it all has to be arranged through the TA that you booked it with originally. :(
A back to back is like two seperate bookings so you can book an upcoming cruise directly after the one already reserved through your TA while on board, they just won't touch the original one.

OK, thanks Toto. You probably saved some embarassment there. I can understand why the on-board people don't want to modify existing bookings, since they might have access to up-to-date info. Maybe, too, they have as many problems dealing with their onshore staff as everyone else does...:)

Rob, now if you booked the cruise directly with Princess, then the Future Cruise Specialist on board can do what ever you would like them to do with your booking. But if it was indeed booked through a Travel Agent, then you must make any changes through the agent you booked with.

Sorry I got befuddled, wasn't sure exactly what info you were asking for at first.
Paint fumes from painting bedrooms must be boggleing my brain. :lol
Painting to get over the PCD I am going through right now. :(
