bringing alcohol on boar

I've a delicate question, as I can assume it's against the rules! But would like to bring a bit of rum on board to enjoy in room on balcony ..... would filling a water bottle and double zip bagging - in my checked luggage work? (not stored in carry-on)

Also - have any of you experienced lost luggage or having to pay the fine for over-weight limit at the airport for the checked luggage? Now, I'm not talking our personal weight upon return to airport after cruise because I know we will definitely be carrying extra poundage!!

Okay, I can't help myself....

Bringing it on a boar might be a little noticable. I always find a donkey works better.

Okay, seriously, you can bring clear rum in a water bottle or wrap it in a towel in your bag, should be fine. And yes, I got nailed for my bag being 52-54 lbs returning home - gave the porter $ and asked if it was still overweight...he said no. LOL. But yes, they WILL weigh your bags. And the "fines' are steep. My bag is gi-normous - full 62 inches, so easy to go overweight. That's why I'm packing light this time.

Ahoy mjra and =welcome to Cruise @ddicts =sailor

I usually bring "a bit of rum on board to enjoy in room" and have never had a problem with it. No need to conceal it in a water bottle or other container, I never have. I just put the bottle in my luggage surrounded by socks and underwear to avoid breakage and it works just fine. Make sure it is in your checked luggage going on to the ship. You obviously would not have it in your checked bags on an aircraft. The main thing is don't try to bring on mass quantities because that could raise a flag. Remember, they are not trying to prevent you from enjoying a cocktail in your cabin or balcony, they are trying to prevent people from bringing enough booze on board that they could get out of control. I don't hide the bottle in my cabin either. I leave it right next to the ice bucket and the cabin steward has never said a thing.

I have even carried rum on in ports. I have just wrapped it in a beach towel (to prevent breakage, not to conceal it) and put it in my snorkel bag. So far, never questioned. Again, I just bring one bottle at a time and no problem yet.

Hey Mike, how do you pull off THAT trick? You can't have it on your carry on....and if you can't have it in the checked the bag at the airport, are you suggesting they go find a liquor store in FLL and then pack it? I don't understand....:help

lost the 'd' on board somehow!

Mbandy - thanks for the advice and kind welcome! - I will definitely bring a bottle along then.
We fly into FL from Canada - so will nip out and get a bottle before boarding the ship - worth the effort for sure.

Have you cruised with Princess?

Mjra..It is against Princess rules to bring hard liquor onboard so this is just a head's up....there is a chance you will have no problem with your bottle of rum...but there is also the chance that it might be confiscated. If it is confiscated it will be returned to you the evening before you disembark. I just want to mention this so that there are no surprises!!

Princess does allow you to bring wine onboard for consumption in your stateroom, or in the dining room where you will pay a corkage fee. Somewhere it says one bottle per person but we've carried a couple more than that and never been questioned.

Well, we've put the water bottles in our checked bags and not had a problem yet. On my most recent cruise (Sea Princess 10/13 - 10/23) I had ordered a couple bottles of vodka to bring home and put it in my checked bags not problem.

Connie... I completely mis spoke. I meant to say "You obviously would not have it in your carry on bags on an aircraft." :dizzy
I always buy my bottle before I leave home and pack it in my CHECKED bag.

Mj... Beryl makes a good point. It is definately against the rules. I didn't mean to imply otherwise. Just that I have always been discreet and have never had a problem. I never bother trying to conceal it in a different container. I have a buddy who poured whiskey in to a mouthwash bottle thinking that the x-ray would not detect what type liquid was in it. What he didn't think was that despite the fact that he rinsed the bottle thouroughly, the minty flavor permiates the plastic bottle so he had mint flavored Canadian Club when he got to the ship.

Yes, I have cruised on Princess. I sailed on Grand Princess out of Galveston to the Western Caribbean a couple of years ago. Princess does an awesome job of taking care of you and the ship lived up to its name, Grand.
