Any opinions about bringing Canadian dollars with you before you get onboard? Should we exchange some money before we leave????

The question is where do you plan on sailing? If most of your ports are in Alaska, I would say no since it is american currency, but if you plan on spending some time in Canada possibly. I do know they have currency exchange booths in the airports. Also, if you've been following the exchange rate recently, the American $ is getting stronger against the Canadian. Right now it is $1.38/american to $1.00/canadian. A couple of months ago it was $1.30/american to $1.00/canadian.

US $ are accepted pretty much everywhere, and in places that deal a lot with US visitors, a Fair Exchange program is in place so you don't get ripped off - currently giving 30% exchange in my town. But you're better off using your credit card for everything - if you need a bit of cash, there are ATMs everywhere.

the cabies and small stores can be the same as all other places and take advantage of the US $ being spent. Yukon's idea is the best I think other than just packin a few CA$ from home or bank. Rate is still going up for US as we speak.

Thanks for mentioning the Canadian $$$. We live on the Canadian/Buffalo border and I would not have thought about bringing the Canadian $$ we keep in an envelope for our trips over the border.

I liked it when we were getting $1.60 as an exchange rate, going to Toronto for the weekend was great.

We will be stopping in Victoria BC and I will bring our Canadian stash.
