Bringing Liquor on Board

Hi everyone. Haven't travelled on NCL for many years, but the last time I did, we brought some alcohol along in our checked luggage without any trouble. Is that still possible? Or is there a place to buy a bottle on the ship (Wind) and take it back to your room?

Thanks in advance,

Terry in Vancouver, BC, Canada

Went on the SUN in Dec. We packed a bottle of liquor in CHECKED luggage. Wrapped in in bubble wrap, large plastic bag, no problems. You cannot buy it anywhere and return it to your room. If you buy it in port, they scan your luggage, and I HEARD they take it. You can buy on the ship in the liquor store, but it cannot be consumed. Just take it, you'll be fine. We are leaving on Carnival Monday and plan to do it. We support the lounges but it is nice to have a drink before dinner in your room. --

There are several threads on creative ways to bring liquor on board! We bring it in our carry-on in flasks or water bottles, depending upon the type of liquor and its color. I don't remember if it was NCL or not, but several people have reported they were summoned to a room where they and other passengers who had brought liquor in their suitcases had to remove it and it was stored below until the last day. I guess I would try to be as discreet as possible. By the way, we got together with family in Florida in February and my brother flew American from NY to Orlando. He had put a bottle of Southern Comfort 100 proof in his luggage and was paged back to the ticket counter after checking in. They wouldn't let him pack it because it was too flammable and said he had to bring it in the cabin. Doesn't make sense to actually bring it into the cabin, seems safer in the cargo hold to me. Anyway, he persisted and the ticket agent spoke with an AA official who finally said ok to keeping it in the luggage. Enjoy your cruise!

No you cannot bring liquor on board. They will confiscate it, at least if it's in the original containers. You cannot buy a bottle to bring back to your room either.

I just spoke with someone and they said that in Puerto Rico it is against the law for Cruise Ships to confiscate alchohol. Does anyone know how accurate this is?

A bottle of wine or so in your carry on is not confiscated. I have put spirits in packed luggage, never a problem, did it in Dec. Now remember you can't take a case, however a bottle should be fine.
