We will be traveling on the Granc next August to the Baltics, I am wondering about brown bag lunches when we go into port. We will be in St Petersburg for 2 days and our using a RO as our tour guide, however we have opted not to stop for meals, we would prefer to take lunch/snacks with us. How to you go about requesting lunch to go on the ship. do you have a choice of what to take. I am planning on purchasing a backpact made by Igloo, so keeping cold won't be a problem. Any guidance would be appreciated.

I requested, from room service, a lunch to take with me when going on a tour. I was told that they would send the lunch but that I was not supposed to take the food to the island I was visiting so they could not wrap it for me. They did, however, include foil with the food so that I could wrap it. I always take a few ziploc bags with me so that I am able to pack a sandwich if I desire. Have a great cruise!

I often take a few pieces of fruit to eat (especially if it is snorkeling or diving, the fish love bananas).

Take bottled water as well. I normally throw it all into a fannypack or a small backpack.

Just remember the climate you are in. Don't take anything that is best eaten cold, like eggsalad.

As stated, there may be problems with taking food ashore, check before trying it. Have seen sniffing dogs at several ports checking.

Also, since you are not using the ships tours, make sure that the tour company that you use is taking care of your visa.

We've a;ways taken some food from the buffet, we bring zip lock bags.Never had a problem. We usaully do " beach " days so we make sure not to bring anything that could go bad. Just some danishes( breakfast buffet) and some fruit. Some islands may not want you to bring fruit , but as I've said we've never been asked or searched.

Sorry didn't carefully read your post, you are doing the Baltics not Caribbean so I believe you will have even less of a problem taking food off the ship as most European countries have open borders ( in regards to food travellling between ) Just order a room service sandwich and take some of your own baggies and wrap it up!

Actually, you can do it, but bringing food onto most islands is prohibited. It's like when you try to bring stuff back into the US from overseas.
