buffet food at dinner

I always get great info from the people on this board so maybe one of you Princess fan's can help me. I am taking my first Princess cruise this October on the Crown and will be taking my 18 month old grandson and I am wondering if the buffet food at night is good? I have read a few comments about a seafood buffet and different food at night at the buffet, but no specifics. I don't want to interrupt anyone's meal in the dinningroom if he decides to be loud so I thought we might just do the buffet this trip. My daughter and I even talked about switching off at meal time so we can experience the better food, but the cruise is not just about food so we will do what we need to do. Thanks for any help you give me as alway's I know someone will have the answers.

The food is excellent but an 18 month old would surely only need a light snack in the evening if anything at all. He will have eaten enough through the day, won't he?

Thanks for the help so far, I just didn't want to try to eat in the dinning room if little mister decides he doesn't want to sit still that night. I love my grandson, but I also know how annoying a busy little boy can be to others that aren't cruising with children and we don't want to take away from their vacation experience. He is a good eater, I'm just afraid he will get antsy between courses. Thanks again.

On the last 3 Princess Ships ( EP,TP,& CB ) I was on, I preferred the food in the Lido over the dining room. I would always check out the menus B4 I would decide where to dine.

I like the Lido buffet on Princess better than on Carnival and NCL. They always have a good variety of items and I never walked away looking for something else. I think they do the best with "leftovers" too. You can usually find a few options for different meats/poultry. There is usually a carving station, precut deli meats, different type dishes like chicken picatta, marsala, scallopini, fruit, soups, the best asst. of breads/desserts I've tasted on any ship. There is always the standbys of pizza or the grill (chicken, burgers, fries, etc. ~ the grilled chicken sandwiches are great!). Room service is available too, I think you can get grilled cheese or peanut butter/jelly.

Have fun!

Kathy, have you tried the Cafe Caribe? It say's casual so I'm wondering if it is an extension of the buffet or a separate restaurant? I figure that each night we will be fine with what I've read, we've been on several cruises just haven't tried the buffet at night before so we did not know what to expect and since this is our first on Princess we are very excited to try something new. Thanks for the help.

On the ships that have the Cafe Caribe that is where the dining buffet WILL be set up. They only use this area and NOT the Horizon Court buffet for the dinner buffet. ALL Princess ships that do NOT have the Cafe Caribe still have their dinner buffet in the Horizon Court. :thumb

Thanks, now I understand since we are going on the Crown and it listed Cafe Caribe I thought it was another restaurant. I appreciate you clearing it up for me, as always good advice on this board. I know it seems silly to ask about food on a cruise, but we normally don't eat the buffet and we are taking a toddler for the first time and it's our first time on Princess (very excited to try something new). I can't wait for October to get here.

Totally understand your concerns (we've got 4 kids, soon to be 5)...and yes, the buffet at dinner time is still tasty. I'm a very picky eater, and like a previous poster mentioned, you can check out the menu's for the dining rooms earlier in the day. The day that they did the "Continental Dinner" on our Alaska cruise we chose to eat in the Horizon Court because all the selections in the dining rooms were too "hoity-toity" and frou-frou for my Midwest tastes. Have fun!!
