Cabins on Carnival Conquest

It's looking more and more likely that my next cruise will be on the Carnival Conquest (May 2009). I'm still waiting to hear back from my TA, but after doing some checking on my own also, it appears that the Conquest and the Voyager will be the only two ships in Galveston next year doing a 7-day cruise. And after having just gotten off the Voyager less than a week ago.....I'll take Carnival anyday! I've been on the Conquest before and it's a nice ship and I had a great cruise. I was just wondering if anyone had any inside information regarding any "special" cabins that were perhaps larger than others in the same category or with larger balconies, etc. The one time I sailed the Conquest, they upgraded me from a balcony cabin to one of the Penthouse suites. I don't think I can bank on them doing that agan! Thanks!

Yes, I have info!!! We just got off the Conquest for the 3rd time - loved it. We had cabin # 7440 - there are only 6 like it on the ship. They feature a wraparound balcony - it's wonderful. We'll be sitting on that balcony again next trip. It goes across the back and down the side of the ship. We took our grown kids with us and since we drove we boxed up 4 extra folding chairs and had them for our balcony too. We took our bungee cord and kept the door open from start to finish. The really nice thing is the cabin has 2 picture windows instead of one- one that looks out the back and the other looks out the side. The window over the bed serves as the head of the bed. The only difference in the room is it doesn't have a couch in the room - two chairs and a tiny table instead.

The only real drawback - if you can call it that - is there is no cover over the balcony so the balcony from above can see you - and if someone throws something over the side - it will land on your balcony.

We truly enjoyed this cabin and we've always had a balcony cabin.

Now, I'm curious - what was wrong with the Voyager?

Thanks for the info! Below I've pasted my mini-review of the Voyager that I posted about on Tuesday.. I just got a quote from an on-line agency for a Cat. 11 suite........$$1,357.29 (including port charges, fuel surcharge, government fees, etc.). I'm not sure what cagetory cabin 7440, but I'm off to check it out!

MINI-REVIEW
Well, we got back into port on Sunday, but this is my first day back at work. We had a wonderful time and the Voyager is a beautiful ship. I'm not any good at writing reviews, so I'll just say that even though the ship is beautiful and the crew was absolutely outstanding, I don't know that I would sail this ship again unless it was the only ship to choose from out of Galveston/Houston. There are only a few reasons for this, and most of these reasons wouldn't bother most cruisers. First of all, we had a balcony cabin and it was the tiniest cabin we've ever had in 17 cruises. One of us literally had to move out of the way if the other wanted to walk by. Next, the buffet on the Lido deck doesn't open for dinner until 6:30 p.m. Since we take all meals at the buffet (we haven't done the dining room thing in years), this was a problem for us since we prefer to eat dinner early and were always having to wait. On Carnival and on Princess there was always food available, but not on this ship. Johnny Rockets was open, but I wasn't too impressed with that eatery. We ate there the first night and decided it would be the last time we ate there. The hamburgers are just OK, you couldn't hear the music and the french fries and onion rings were so greasy, that's all you could taste. Next would be the fact that the casino does not use a cashless system like Princess and Carnival. There were no "casino cards" to upload your winnings to (if any) and this resulted in very long lines at the cashier's window and there was never more than one window open at a time. Like I said, for a lot of cruisers, none of this stuff would matter. But for me.......I probably spend more time in my cabin than a lot of people (I love sitting out on the balcony), I spend a lot of time in the casino, and I prefer to eat dinner around 5:30. Oh yes....and the TV programming was really bad and I watch TV when I go to bed until I fall asleep. But as I said, we did have a wonderful time. The ports of call were marvelous (Montego Bay, Grand Cayman, Cozumel) and we had great weather. I wouldn't let any of the above deter you from sailing this ship as the ship is beautiful and the crew, as I said, was absolutely outstanding.
