We are cruising on the Sensation Nov 15th. This is my 3rd cruise and we are looking at doing something on our own in these ports. I would like to tour some mayan ruins in Calica or Playa Del Carmen by taking a taxi. I would like to have some information on the ruins as well such as a brochure guide, or tour guide at the site, etc., but am wanting to be thrifty with $. Does anyone have some ruin suggestions or input and taxi advice?

I would like to rent a jeep in Cozumel to drive along the coast, stopping at some beaches for photos, bars for cold beverages along the way, and having lunch at Coconut's since it seems it has the view not to miss. I've also heard Mezcalito's is an excellent restaurant with a view. Does anyone have anyone have any suggestions or input?

Doing Cozumel on your own is an easy thing. You'll be able to rent a jeep just off the ship. Some great snorkeling spots to try are Dzul Ha and Chankanaab. Both are also great places to stop for a "cold beverage". Nachi Cocom is a great beach to stop at as well. No snorkeling, but a good restaurant, bar and pool with a beautiful beach. Coconut's has a great view and Mezcalito's has fantastic margaritas. Have a great time!

We were on Sensation to Cozumel back in may. Had a great time. Check out this website. It has a TON of information for you.

Be sure to stay outside as you sail out of Tampa Bay. It tkes about an hour to get out of the bay. Go up on deck below the radar mast as you pass under the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. Clearance is only 10 feet and you can hear the traffic on the bridge as you pass under. Pretty cool.

Happy Cruising,

Michael

We did the Jeep trip around Cozumel a couple of years ago and it was WONDERFUL. You can stop at several beaches, stop at several beachside bars (can't remember names, but just stop where you feel like it - it's all beautiful). We also toured the ruins and it was a very pleasant and enjoyable place to go. Not as big as the ruins on the mainland, but very fascinating. Lots of iguanas running around and you can walk right into ruins of houses that people lived in so many years ago. Very moving and thought-provoking. We parked the jeep near the cruise ship and reboarded for lunch, then went back out again and were back in time for debarkation and dinner. We snorkeled at Chankanaab. A very beautiful place, where you could spend the whole day if you wanted to. But the Jeep drive around teh island is worth doing. Have a great time. It was one of our beset days ever.
