Thank you to the latest National Geographic for the following info. I knew about the chocolate and grapes, the alcohol and coffee is just common sense, but the nuts, garlic and onions???

ALCOHOL - It depresses the brain function and can cause a coma. So no pina colada for Fido - not for fun and not by accident with party leftovers.

COFFEE - The caffeine in a cup of java is amethylxanthine compound that can increase a dog's heart rate and trigger seizures.

CHOCOLATE - The chemical theobromine can be fatal. Just three ounces of dark or seven of milk can bring on vomiting in a 50-lb. dog.

MACADAMIA NUTS - Experts have yet to determine hwy just a few of these nuts can produce tremors, even temporary paralysis, in a dog's hind legs.

GARLIC - Garlic breaks down a dog's red blood cells, leading to anemia and possible kidney failure from leaking hemoglobin.

ONIONS - Their damage to canine hemoglobin is cumulative, so small tastes over time can be worse than wolfing down the whole bulb.

GRAPES - Toxicologists have found that grapes and raisins can cause renal failure. They're still trying to learn why.

Thanks, Glo.

Geez, I'm thinking back how often I was told in the past to put a little garlic powder (not garlic salt) on Mr. Finicky's (aka Pucci's) food to entice him to eat!

My dad used to feed his dogs grapes all the time. Toby eventually died of kidney failure. Hope that wasn't related!

You left out chicken bones, cooked that it. They break easily and can puncture their intestines. And ham is bad for them, also, but I can't remember why.

ConnieCat...that would be renal failure.

I actually knew that, I meant I hope the grapes didn't do it. Sorry for the confusion.
