I am taking my family on a cruise 8-1 of this year. Total of seven members. We are going to Nassau, St. Maarten and St. Thomas. Due to the size of my family I am looking for cost effective options when off the ship at these ports.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. This will be the kids first cruise.

Hello, saw your post , were also going on the same cruise 8/1, we were on this same ship last year for the western carribean. If you have any questions aboput the ship we can probably answer them. The excursions can get expensive especially with 7 people, you can check them out and prices by going to carnival.com and following the links. If you just wanted to get to a beach you could probably take a taxi and save alot but beware, because your in a foreign land and theres people that prey on foreigners, also if you dont get back on that ship in time it will leave without you.Good Luck only 2 weeks away=docdance=docdance Kevin and Susan

In Nassau: Once off the pier, go to the taxi stand and take a taxi (Van) to the Raddisson Cable Beach where you can spend the whole day using their beach, pool swim up bar etc...
In St Thomas: Use internet and find "Godfrey Tours" you can hire your own van/driver for the day. Go to Megan's Bay and Coki (sp?) Beach to swim and snorkel. Take dog biscuits with you when you snorkel. The fish will swarm you! Also ask to be taken to the local flea market for shopping. I believe table mountain building is gone due to a fire.
St Martin: Walk from the ship to the crescent shaped beach right in front of the main downtown shops (great shopping) find some unbrellas on the beach in front of a restaurant/bar. Do not get suckered into paying more than $5 for an umbrella and 4 chairs. Just agree to order your lunch and buckets of beers and frozen thingees from their bar/restaurant and they will serve you like kings and queens all day long for very reasonable price.
Do NOT NOT NOT allow anyone to braid any of the kid's hair on St Martin unless you agree on the number of braids and the total cost. Then, stand with the child and wait until finished. If you leave for a short time while your daughter's hair get's braided, they will quickly call all their friends over and begin braiding like crazy !!! You get back, and they will claim you owe them hundreds of dollars for all the braids and call the police if you try to stiff them. My sister had to pay $175 for her daughter's braids ! She claims she just went into the store next to the braider for 5 minutes and there were 6 women braiding her daughter's hair when she came out. She thought she would only get about 5 braids for about $10 but ended up with 75-100 braids !

Thank you for the information and guidance on things to do!! It is greatly appreciated. My wife and I have been on several Carnival cruises in the past, but we wanted our teenagers to have a good time and not put out an arm and a leg for the excursions!!

Kevin and Susan: Seems like each day gets longer, but its only two weeks and we are ready to go! We will be easy to spot with 5 kids, possibly six trailing along, with my two18 year old's continuing to ask for drinks.......lol

I am sure we will be on the Lido deck around the same time as most. We will be hard to miss, even in a crowd. Now with 6 of our children going between 11 and 19 we will be an easy target to find. Girls are all blond to include my lovely wife. Anyway, I look forward to the relaxation. We will hope to see you on the ship at some point if not on the Lido deck on day 1.

In Nassau, you can also take a cab to the entrance to the beach on Paradise Island. You will get a good look at the famous Atlantis Hotel. Do NOT try to access the beach by walking through the Atlantis Hotel - they check ID.

In St. Thomas, Coki Beach has good snorkeling right off the beach. Megan's bay is beautiful but there is virtually nothing to look at when you snorkel. The water is clear and shallow, though, so depending on your children's ages, you might like that. There is a ferry to St. John's from st. Thomas, and an interesting village where the ferry docks in St. john, but it takes quite a long time to make the connections and the return. Don't trust anyone that comes up to you on the street offering to take yuo somewhere in a private taxi. Only trust the official transportation.

We haven't been to St. Maarten.

Have a great time!
