Has anyone out there sailed as a member of the Carinival Vacation Club? How does the VIP embarkation/debarkation work?

I am a member of CVC, but my first CVC cruise is in April. I would assume the embarkation works just like the Skipper Club. I have used the debarkation (a perk of signing up). We were given special tags to put on our luggage. Then we were taken to a special room. We were first off the ship and our luggage was waiting for us.

I am curious also. Has anyone been upgraded as a result of being a member? Do you think there is an actual savings on cruise price?

There is no savings on cruise price. It actually costs more (about 10 - 15%). I have read that some people received fantastic upgrades. I am going on my first CVC cruise in April. However, I booked a specific cabin, not a guarantee. Maybe for my 2nd CVC cruise I will book a guarantee and see what happens.

I am a member also. I joined last May on the Conquest and have only used the debarkation service which was excellent. I am anxious to see if we are offered any upgrades during our next cruise.
I believe it is worth the extra dollars if they deliver with the service they have promised.

I was wondering if there is anywhere to get information on this vacation club. I tried to do a search on the Carnival site and had no luck. I really don't want to have to call the 800 #.

Hey,
At the time I purchased this plan, it was being tested on Conquest class ships. We were told that they would be increasing the number of ships that it would be offered on based on the positive reponse they were getting. A little hint: If you purchase the plan using a Carnival Sea Miles card, you will receive double miles.

Don't get your hopes up too much!!

We went on the Inspiration last July after buying into CVC on the Spirit in Feb... Got a really great deal, as far as we were concerned, on the cruise... We flew into Tampa, the night before Dennis hit!!! So, sufice it to say, due to weather, we stayed an extra day on the ship, in the port... We had the option to get off the ship for a full refund, but chose to stay on since we were 3,000 miles from home... We figured we were in the cheapest hotel that we were going to find at that time... Needless to say... That didn't have anything to do with CVC, I understand... But what they offered to us was 40% off of a future cruise... Being that we paid in points, we felt that we should be able to use our 40% off using points also... Later, we would find out that this would not be the case, even though, the purser went behind the desk for 10 min and called Carnival and came back stating that we would be able to do so... There was no CVC or SeaMiles person on the ship, so we could not take our concerns to them, all we could deal with was the purser.. Who, looked at us with a very funny face and having no idea what CVC was... Needless to say, by the end of the cruise, they must have figured out what CVC was, because we ended up getting our "VIP" tickets to get off the ship first...

NOW, the other side of the coin... My parents were on the Spirit with us in Feb and also bought into CVC... They used their "points" in September to go on the Pride... Now.. .Being that there was both a SeaMiles person and CVC people on their cruise, they got ALL the perks that we were told we would get in Feb.... They had LOTS of parties... They were able to get on the ship before many other people were (their names were on a posterboard, like stated)... They were able to go down to the CVC office and ask for champagne, lanyards, another tote bag and pretty much any of the other freebies that CVC was giving out... When my parents told them what happened to us on the Inspiration I was givin a name and a number to call to "talk more" about using points... I never did this as we already had purchased our Alaska cruise for this Sept...

Soooo, it sounds like if you were to use your points on a ship that has a CVC office on it you are better off to get the perks that are associated with CVC... I'm not sure of all the ships that have this, but I know that the Pride, the Spirit and the Conquest have it... They told my parents that they are working on getting all the ships "in line" but I'm sure it's going to take time..
