Has anyone cruise out of Cape Liberty recently. I am cruising on Explorer of the Seas in July and was wondering about transportation to and from the port to newark airport.

We went out of NJ about a year and a half age. Good embarkation port! Took a taxi to the ship from EWR for about $30-$35 before tip.

I have to completely disagree with BSBBILL....I dont like the port at all. We left in November 2007 out of Cape Liberty and it was bad. The port is VERY VERY small for the amount of people it needs to hold. Also, since the terminal building isn't large enough, they have a "oversized tent" outside that you may be waiting in. That tent has no heat or AC.

Of course, this is only my experience and opinion. Best of Luck.

Hope that helps :)

I haven't sailed out of there, but have heard mostly negative comments. I know firsthand I would never sail from San Diego again.

Arrived at Cape Liberty on Dec2 2007 for a 9 day cruise . There was still snow on the ground. It was cold, and getting both in and out of the luggage area was a disaster. It took 50m minutes to go from the main entrance to the luggage test when we arrived. When leaving it took another 20 minutes from the parking area to the same tent to retrieve our luggage. Absolutely the worst experience in 18 cruises. I hope by this time RCL has it's act together at Cape Liberty.

People have said if you get to the port by 11 am you should have no problem. Check in on line before you go and that will be one less line you have to wait in. I'm going May 9th I'll let you know how I make out. People do say leaving the ship takes a while.

How is the parking at Cape Liberty We are going in March of 2009. We will be driving down from Vermont and parking our car somewhere. Any suggestions?

I was on the very first cruise to depart from Cape Liberty. It was Voyager of the Seas back then. We enjoyed our visit to NYC and then the 2 night CTN. Since it was the very first cruise, things were not completely up and running yet but I don't remember having any trouble with luggage or customs and it was easy to grab a car service back in to the city. Sounds like a cab from EWR is the best bet.
