Caribe Deck on Princess Ruby

Hi all - we are new to cruising and have chosen Room 314 on the new Ruby Princess - January 2009 sailing!
Does anyone have any experience with this area of rooms aboard sister ships - Crown or Emerald? I appreciate all comments.
Also - second question - any suggestions to finding quieter lounging areas (in the sun!) aboard the ship that aren't necessarily by the pool. Thanks!

I haven't stayed in the Caribe Balcony cabins. The balcony it self is 9x9. As far finding a quite spot for lounging areas try the aft deck (adult area).

Okay, I'll try....first...C314 on the Ruby is directly across from a self service laundry room. I don't think you will find that there is much, if any, concern about noise from the laundry room but there might be a little more passenger traffic because of the location. If this concerns you check to see if there is another cabin in the same category that you could be moved to.

Secondly....quiet lounging place....I cruised on the Emerald in February and the quietest lounging place on the ship is the Sanctuary. It is adult only! Of course you pay for the priviledge of using that area. On the Emerald Princess there were a lot of lounge chairs that were not actually in the Sanctuary but in the area just outside the Sancturary and there were very few people that used those lounges. I would give that a try and see if it is the same set up on the Ruby! The Sanctuary on the Ruby Princess is far forward on the Sports Deck and makes use of the Lotus Spa Pool. You do not have to be using the spa to use the pool.

Thanks for all your suggestions and comments.
Unfortunately, it doesn't look like there are any other cabins available in that area/category (as per TA) - but we are happy for the step up from Baja - the deck sounds lovely. What are the chances of getting a lounger? Is this something that we can ask our butler (not sure if that is the correct term) to have brought to the balcony?

The self-serve laundry - does that refer to a laundromat type area wherein you can use coin-operated washing machines? Are you familiar with the cost for use?

Thanks again - appreciate your advice!

Ask your cabin steward if they can bing you a lounge chair for your balcony. The self serve laundry is a laundromat type machines. I don't know the cost of the machines though, since I send my laundry out.

I wish I could remember the charge for the machines in the laundromat...I can't! I recommend just saving up a bunch of quarters for the purpose. They do have change machines but they are often out of change...so be safe and bring some quarters with you. I usually bring a zip lock bag with some detergent and a few dryer sheets as well.

You can ask your cabin steward if it is possible to have a lounge chair put on your balcony....he may or may not be able to accommodate your request, but it never hurts to ask.

Wishing you a wonderful voyage on the new Ruby Princess!

Okay, wait - so there is no detergent or softner and they're not free?

I'll get my quarters from the casino cashier I guess. I doubt I'll need to launder for a 7 dayer, but ya never know when this klultz is going spill something on her white pants or shorts. :clown

:wave I bring Dawn Dish washing detergent, a tip from my first cruise in 1994.. and a good squirt does a load.. I get the Dollar store size on sale (pint).. and double bag it ,in the suitcase it goes, and I rinse out our swimmy suits and hang them from the clothes line in the shower.. they dry easy.. ( or on my balcony) .:grin..there is something about the brine smell of the sea in the Caribbean that gets suits a nasty odor..so I rinse them out..
=lolgang..one more thing Connie as BTW..ALL the pools/ Hot tubs on Princess are FRESH water not sea water.. just figured I'd throw that in.....=tempted.....Joanne

Good morning Joanne!! :daisy
Ohhhhh....wow, another unknown fact. Who knew? =huh

That means chlorine. I like the sea water. I always found when I put my suit on the balcony to dry it never does, because of the humidity (unless I put it out early in the afteroon in the hot sun). Well, honestly, because I spent 13 years living on the beach in FL, and now right on the ocean at the Jersey shore, swimming, sunning isn't a big priority for me. I might go swimming a couple early mornngs, while everyone is chowing down at the breakfast buffet, but other than that, I usually skip the whole "pool area" thing. A little hot and crowded for me. Since I'm only bringing one bag this time, (tired of schlepping 3 bags alone - not easy!) plus a carry on for valuables, I'm not going to worry about doing laundry. I'll pack 7 outfits, for evening and shorts and t's. No biggie. The two and three week cruises, I usually send out my laundry every 4 days or so, as Elite Celebrity it's CHEAP and they do a great job. For Elite, you get a big cloth bag, not a paper one that rips and you can fill it to the max for $8 or something like that. Boy, I'm pissed they eliminated cabin/balcony smoking...lol....although in all honestly, I think I overcruised them. I'm "over" Celeb.

Reminds me of a story....on Millenium, I had a brand new designer gown (yes, people actually wore gowns back then - ha) and was getting ready to go to formal night. Well they had to remove the vent by the cabin door, as the AC wasn't working up to my hot flash standards.:)P) They were fixing it. When I went to leave, the gown got "sucked into" the vent and ripped the whole bottom of the skirt. I was livid!! :XThey paid for the gown, but I got to walk around all night with an unplanned "slit" up the side. LOL
=lolgang
ps - PHILLIES GONNA WIN THE WORLD SERIES!! Will be a lot of partying in this neck of the woods tomorrow night!

Agree with Beryl that the quietest area would be the Sanctuary or the sunning area on that Deck outside the Sanctuary area. :thumb The area of MOST noise is the MUTS area for obvious reasons. :grin
