We too were on the Conquest 10/23/05.
NEGATIVE: There were some very bad patches i.e. the Airport was very confusing not enough people to help and the buses all arrived late. No problem we boarded the bus approximately 3/4 of an hour to the port. What a disaster, we sat on our bus for an hour before being able to get off then the line was so long and people were getting angry. There could have been more people to check you in but one has to understand it is a very large ship and due to the hurricane they were diverted to Houston which obviously was not ready to handle it al, but I am sure it will get better. Leaving the ship was not nearly as bad but the luggage was a bit of a mess trying to find it,
NEGATIVE" I know some of you on here are travel agents but I was very annoyed that several times we went to go to specific areas i.e. Degas Lounge only to find out they were closed due to" Private Parties" There were an excessive amount of travel agents who I understand bring some business to the cruise line but on the whole were having a good time and paid farless than I did I am sure. The ship should have a room where they can hold their parties etc., without interfering with the other passengers. That was one of my grievances and I made it known.
NEGATIVE: jAMAICA, Could live without it, we took a trip to Croydon Plantation and it was really bad, advertised as a coffee plantation which it was but very small,(we did see some coffee beans and trees but that was a coffee as it got) became quite a horticulturist with all the knowledge I acquired re bees, trees, fruit etc.. Lousy lunch of very dry jerk chicken etc., Would not recommend this to anyone.
Positive: Ship was exceptionally clean, did not see a lot of trays etc., lying around they were cleared very quickcly/ mainly went to the Cessane for breakfast which was quite good Fresh eggs or omlettes etc.,
plenty of fresh fruit .
Upstairs in the Cessane during the day you could get Fish & Chips which when hot were very good., other seafood served there also. (this is in the upstairs part of the Cessane.
The Lunchtime buiffet was more than adequate and there is also a deli, pizza, and sushi bar if you required it.
Evening meal: we ate four times in the D/room food at best was moderatly good. We ordered chautaubriand for dinner one evening and it was barely edible. Hard to destroy that! Twice we ate at the Point food there was excellent and well worth the money. The first evening they could not find our table in the D/room due to some of the staff being new and we were paraded around the d/room and then plonked down at a table. This did not please my husband who complained and we received a telephone call next day that out table had been changed also received a letter with an apology for the previous evenings fiascur table waited was Anthony and his helper Yola who were both very efficient and friendly. I did enjoy the waiters etc., singing after dinner. We did take six bottles of wine with us and took one to dinner each evening, no problems there and I do not think we were charged a cork fee (except in the Point)
Even though it is such a large ship there are still many quiet places to sit and read or just relax if that is what you want to do. Saw bits of the different shows and overall I would say they were good.
Cabin was very good, excellent cabin steward room was spotless (there is also a rubber door stopper in the rooms which you can use for wedging the balcony door open)plently of hot water for showers etc., shelves for cosmetic and lots of closet space in the cabin there were little drawers everywhere so more than enough room. I t was nice having a balcony and we spent time there in the evening relaxing.
The ships decoration I found overall very nice and not a gaudy as I had thought it would be. We especially liked Alfreds where you could have an after dinner drink and my husband could enjoy a cigar.
(the Captain likes it there too) Wine bar was very nice. Staff on the ship were friendly. Grand Cayman was very pleasant we just caught a local cab to the beach $4. per person and the beach was lovely) Then did some shopping. Enjoyed the sea days. The first day out was very rough and quite a few people were under the weather, but after that smooth sailing
I would sail Carnival again especially at that time of year(minus travel agents if possible). There were quite a few children on board but all appeared to be quite well behaved. No loud large groups.
So if you are due for a trip on the Conquest enjoy and happy sailing!
