Carnival cancels 3 fantasy cruises

Part of a message from Carnival....

The 2010 Carnival Fantasy departures on November 26, December 1 and 6, 2010 have been cancelled. The ship will now be scheduled for drydock and routine maintenance during that period.

We apologize for canceling these cruises. However, we know that we can find an alternative Carnival cruise that will be acceptable. Our reservations staff will be available to assist with recommendations for other cruise options.

I only see one affected in the cruise tracker.

It is sometimes inconvenient when you have to reschedule a cruise but they need the time for routine maintenance. That is a good thing.

I was scheduled for the December 6th. I received a call from Carnival advising of the cancellation, asked to be reschedueld on the December 11th cruise at the same rate and they refused to do so. So, we went ahead and reserved the December 11th at a higher rate. I was a little upset that they would not grant the same rate for the cabin selection. I mean, it's not that I was asking to change.

You would think that they would know when a ship is scheduled for drydock and not make that cruise avalable for the time frame. This will me my 2nd cruise and 1st on Carnival and it may be my last if I have to re-schedule again.

A shame they would not protect your original rate pj103, they really should have.

It is unusual to cancel a cruise for a dry dock unless there is some kind of mechanical problem. Since the dry dock for Fantasy is so far away, I am guessing that is not the case.

The second week of December is a great time to cruise and one of the lowest priced time of year. Odds are the prices will drop on your December 11th cruise a few times before you go PJ103

So if they reduce the rate, I will get the reduction also?

Before final payment you should get the lower rate. After final payment they will typically upgrade you to the category pricing at the rate you paid. Upgrades are based on availability.

Well, we went ahead and made our final payment(8 months ahead of schedule- wanted to get it out of the way) - so are you saying they may upgrade us from V7 to something else if they lower the price? What could be better, a Grand Suite on a lower deck?

Don't expect an upgrade. Carnival might just give you the different as an on board credit.
