I will be leaving out of Galveston this Sunday 5/25 and will be taking my very first cruise. I paid almost $2400 for a balcony stateroom. However I am very disgusted that the room I got back is going to be near the elevator, since it was guaranteed and Carnival picked it. There were no suites available at the time of my booking which would have allowed me to pick my own room when I made my mind up to go awaiting my moms passport. Is there anyone who has stayed on this ship on Deck 7 near elevators and I'm a bit annoyed that I am also at the aft of the ship and I'm worried about motion sickness. I have gotten the prescribed patch just so you know.

I also don't really want to go through Carnival for the Jamaican Dunn's River Falls but will probably have to because it may be the safety especially for this country. If someone knows a private company which is reputable for this excursion, please let me know and thanks in advance. Also feel free to give this first timer any other helpful hints.

Hello and =welcome to Cruise @ddicts.

Don't worry too much about being near the lifts. If people want to be inconsiderate, they will do so by the lifts or in the middle of the hall. I have only been disturbed by people being loud in the hallways at night a couple of times in 18 cruises and both of those times we were not by the lifts so it really shouldn't matter. The main thing is that you probably got a pretty good price booking the GTY but the trade off is not being able to choose your exact cabin. In our 18 cruises we have been in the front, the back, the middle, by the lifts and away from the lifts. To be honest, it just doesn't matter, at least not to us.

Another good cure for motion sickness is ginger. You can get some ginger tablets at about any health food store.

We book lots of trips through the shoretrips website. Here's a link to that.

Dunns River Falls will be very crowded. I would suggest rafting on the Martha Brae river. Very relaxing and scenic. Here's a link to that.

We stayed in room 8257 (I think) on the Conquest. It was directly across from the lifts and we loved it so much we booked it again the next year. Noise was never an issue. On the contrary, I believe that the rooms deeper in the corridors actually tunnel the sound somewhat. I totally agree with Mbandy - inconsiderate people will be themselves no matter where they are, just don't let them affect your cruise.

We were by the elevators last year on the Triumph and it was not a problem at all. Matter of fact, we picked the cabins and it was nice to have the elevator take you almost to your door step. I wouldn't hesitate to book those cabins again.

The elevators empty into a lobby that is walled off from the room corridors. You will not hear any machinery noises from the elevators. Maybe the "bing" when the elevator stops. If people are going to be loud in the halls, all rooms will get to share that.

Sea sickness is something to NOT think about. The Pursers desk and/or the infirmary will supply sea sick PILLS, not patches or shots, no charge.

wondering how the OP made out on their cruise.

with all the "disgusted" talk I kinda worried about them.

a bad mindset will make other stuff go wrong on a cruise.
If they were that worried they should not have booked a guarantee cabin but picked where they wanted to be.

Nothing wrong with being by the elevator--- actually makes it nice and convenient-- no traveling to get somewhere.
