We are sailing out in 15 days on the Conquest. We paid off our cruise months ago.. We sailed on the Grand Princess last spring & a couple of weeks prior to our cruise they mailed us our luggage tags & documents..With Carnival they told me on the phone we will not get documents or luggage tags...They say because of "Going Green" I must print off my funpass & all luggage tags..I dont mean to complain but spending over $6000, 5 people, minumum 3 bags each this has been alot of printing... Anyone had any problems.?
Thanks sbchevypwrd

We are leaving on sunday on Carnival Legend, I printed mine and my mom had her's mailed to her. She got her's about 3 weeks ago. When I went on the web page for Documents it gave us a choice!!! Good Luck!! Have fun on your cruise!!!

My wife and I are platinum members. Take it from me--no worries. When we sailed last December we printed all our docs, sail and sign application, and luggage tags online, etc. Just remember that you'll have all the docs you need, you'll just print them off your computer instead of getting them through the mail. No real difference.

Happy cruising

Herb and Judy are right. You have nothing to worry about. The only real difference with e-mail docs is the location of the doc dance. You end up dancing all round your computer instead of your mail box.

Heck I suppose you could take those e-docs outside to the mail box, and whoop it up all around the box out there, but the neighbors really will think you're strange. =docdance

OK....have to ask......how do you print a luggage tag??? Or more to the point.....how would you make it "stick". Or......is it a different kind or fastening system???

They are on flat paper, you have to fold them like they tell you to do (in steps) Then it says fold or tape around handles on your luggage..
I used box tape on mine after we folded them. Then I used box tape on them around the handles.I know my luck ,we will get to Galveston and it will be pouring down rain, then it would wash everything away.. Thats my luck...LOL

I've never had the chance to print my tags, but I don't see any reason you couldn't use heavier paper in your printer, to make them more durable. And If you buy a roll of clear packaging tape to esentially coat them, the printing should be pretty well protected.

Also, it might be a little more involved to do this with home printed tags, but I'd be even more inclined than ever to wait to put them on the bags, after your flight. Either put them on the bags once you get to your pre-stay hotel, or do it at the destination airport, after getting your bags from baggage claim. Much less chance for them to be torn off.

We always just wait until we get to the port. The porters have real luggage tags and we just fill them out and attach them to our bags before letting the porter take them.

The printable tags are pretty useless imho.

Thanks sbchevypwrd for the info on the luggage tags. Like you, I would probably wrap them real good in clear packaging tape. As far as putting them on after flights...........that's one thing I don't have to worry about! I don't fly and only cruise out of port within driving distance! :lol

We sailed on Conquest in March - I printed boarding passes. And I have access at work to a laminator so I folded and then laminated them. I stapled them to each handle. I also made a copy of them and put one INSIDE each suitcase.

I have this fear of spending the week with no clothes.

I also saw someone mention that they just folded them, attached them and then used that wide clear packing tape to cover the writing.

I thought they needed that extra strength and protection from rain and water, etc.

By the way, you mentioned there was a limit now on luggage. On the ship? Did I misunderstand that?

My husband will be glad of that.

No sorry about that, I dont think theres a limit we just have 5 people going. We each will have 1 carry on & each 2 rollers. And 1 garmet bag for formals. Its just a lot for us. We dont fly so from Tulsa to Galveston in a short wide extended cab Silverado its a lot.LOL .... We bought some 3mil 55 gallon bags to put them in between Tulsa & Galveston in case of rain..

I'm a Platinum, cruiser and agree with the Platinum member above. If you show up at the dock with only your passport and credit card, you WILL get on the ship. The porters have a manifest AND luggage tags, and the clerks inside WILL process you. IT will take longer than if you brought all with you, but pre-completed docs are not essential to boarding.

Kruzr41 is correct however it is very important to remember that guests that do not complete the registration process prior to embarkation are required to check-in at least 90 minutes prior to the published sailing time. Failure to do so will result in denied boarding. The reason for this is that government regulations for U.S. departure ports require that a final departure manifest is submitted 60 minutes prior to departure.

Hello Michael,

Just want to say thanks for your post. I think I will be adding this info to the Cruise Addict's Travel Tips Page with the next update. I'm always looking for new material, and this is a good one. :thumb

Hi Gayle

Glad to contribute to the travel tips page. The "90 minute rule" is pretty new, maybe 6 months or so I don't remember exactly. The information I posted came from the Carnival web site so it is accurate and all cruise lines have to enforce it because of the requirement to get the manifest to the proper authorities 60 minutes prior to departure.

And yes...people checking in late have been denied boarding....but none of my clients :)
