Carnival Destiny

I think we are going to book the 7 Day Destiny cruise for Nov 11, 2007. Why is Carnival charging $649 per person for air? I found a price on Continental for $303 per person round trip from cleveland. I think we will be booking our own air!! Has anyone been on the Destiny lately? There is only one review on this ship and it's kinda old. I was thinking since the ship doesn't depart untill 10pm we will fly in the day of, that should give us plenty of time for delays and interruptions.
Any reviews on the destiny would help!! Thanks

It's been over a year and a half since we were on the Destiny...I'm not sure flying in the day your cruise leaves is a good idea. Plus the fact that once the hotel kicks you out you can get on the ship...eat lunch...walk around...they even had some stuff you could do in the evening (not a lot but a few things). We've seen enough people miss their cruise by waiting until the day of which is why I suggest you don't. We stayed at a hotel about half way between the airport and the pier. There are some nice (and expensive) hotels in old town - near the pier. By all means do your own air if you can beat Carnivals price!

I sailed Destiny in Sept, 2006. We flew in the same day as the cruise since it dont leave til 10pm. Took the first flight out in the early am.. arrived-checked in and was at the buffet by 1pm.
Arriving the same day I can tell you you will be beat by sail away. Tried taking a nap in the afternoon was hard. Too much to do and I am the kind that is afraid i will miss something.

Dining the first night is opened seating. You can wear shorts in the dining room the first night. Very casual, laid back.

The Destiny is a port intensive cruise. you will be off the ship more then on. The ports are amazing and because of my Destiny Cruise I will be doing a land vacation in Aruba in 2008. There jsut wasnt enough time for me here.

We have never been to Aruba, but we were a little sad when we seen the Destiny will not be going to Aruba anymore by the time we would be sailing in Nov. 07

For the Destiny-- you really have to prepare yourself for some things. The Destiny can become a shock to people that are not prepared.

Carnival sells unsold cabins to locals at a very cheap price. They can sail the 7 day cruise for as low as government taxes and port charges.
The Destiny cabins can hold up to 5 people in each cabin.
You will be a minority.
Spanish and English and both spoken-like at talks and some shows.
Do not expect a caribbean cruise- this ship does a lot of latin/salsa.
(this bothers a lot of people if they are not aware)
