Carnival Dream questions!!!

Hello all! I have already searched to see if this question has been asked, but didn't find anything so if it has I apologize.
I am going to be sailing on the Dream the week of July 4, 2010 and am worried about the room we are going to be in. We are in category 8A balcony stateroom 6263 directly above the Lido Deck.
My questions are:
1. I heard that the view of the water is obstructed and people can see clear into your room from the Lido Deck, is this true?
2. I have problems with cigarette smoke and am worried that if people are allowed to smoke below us if the smoke will be able to smelled from the balcony and would it just be best for me to stay off of it?

Any and all answers would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!

Well, first of all welcome to Cruise Addicts. You are actually above the promenade deck. The lido deck is the pool deck.

If you look straight down you will not see the water. However, you don't have an obstructed view. If you look out there is nothing blocking your view ...

Now I suppose that if someone is more than eight feet tall, they could see into your cabin. However, there are very few people that tall and I doubt that they cruise.

If the ship is not moving, smoke from the promenade deck could get up to your balcony. If the ship is moving then any smoke would be coming from the balconies on your same level and more forward then you are.

If you take me serious, it's your problem
Yeah Cruizer is right, you'll be fine.. if you look at the ship deck layout you can get an idea of where you are relative to the lido deck and other smoking designated areas aboard ship. Much like Cruizer has said, if the ship is moving(which is about 80% of the time) you won't even smell the smoke from the balcony. you're more apt to smell smoke on the pool deck than you are from your balcony. Or, if the dream has one... the Cigar Bar...

As for the view... no, you can't look directly down and see the water alongside the ship, but you can still look down and see it fairly close, enough so that you will be able to spot any dolphins swimming alonside the ship.

Lastly , Welcome aboard!! i hope you enjoy your time here and look forward to your posts. Ask all the questions you want... we love answering questions. Hope you meet alot of cool people and maybe make a friend or two .. .

I have to disagree with my other cruisers. We sailed on the Dream 2/06/10 and I do remember taking photo's after arriving in port and looking over the railings and seeing private balconies. I can not remember where I was when that happend, but I am pretty sure that would only apply to the very highest balconies and not on Deck 6.

We did not have a balcony, so I wouldn't be able to answer your question concerning the smoke.

Well, I must admit to some confusion because the OP said they were just above the Lido deck (which they clearly are not) and were worried about people seeing into the room from the Lido deck. So it is not clear if they really mean the Lido deck or the Promenade deck (which is the deck that they are actually above).

First of all, you are claiming they can see the balcony from what is actually the Lido deck. The question was, can they see into the room (not the balcony?

Second of all, if we assume the OP was referring to the deck below (which is actually the promenade deck) then the question is, can someone see into the room from the promenade deck? This is the question I answered.

Thank you all for your replies and sorry I haven't been able to get back quicker. Cruizer- thank you for correcting me, as many times as I have looked at the deck plans you would have thought I would have them memorized. I feel much better and even if the problems I mentioned do happen, I plan on having an amazing time and it being a DREAM.
