Just booked my frist cruise on Carnival. Having cruised on RCI before and booked excursions through their web site I went to Carnival's site thinking I could do the same thing. I could not see where they offer that feature, am I mssing something? I usually book some excursions myself and some through the line. With Carnival do you just have to wait till your onboard the ship to book? Thanks!:AL:USA

Unless something has changed since last May, Carnival has no setup to book shore tours in advance. Having sailed on Carnival 4 times, may I say that I have never had a problem booking the excursion I desired after boarding. It is always one of my first items of business after boarding.

Depending on where you're going, you might do just as well booking shore excursions in advance with private tour operators. We just returned from W. Caribbean and booked all three tours in advance. It cost less, we got out on tour earlier than most of the cruise ships and - in Cayman Islands - the cruise ships cancelled all the snorkeling tours because of "rough seas" but the private tour operators, which use smaller boats with fewer passengers, went anyway, and we had a wonderful experience. Check the Ports of Call section or Cruise @ddicts or post questions about specific ports and tour operators available. If you're going to the Cayman ISlands and want to Snorkel, Captain Marvin's is great (http://www.captainmarvins.com/ ). IN Ocho Riois, Peat Taylor (http://www.geocities.com/peattaylor) was fantastic, and in Cozumel we rented a VW Safari from Less Pay Rentals (accessed through the Cozumel Insider at http://www.cozumelinsider.com/carrental/). Just allow plenty of time so you don't miss the ship after your tour. Have a great time.

We are going on the Sprit to Hawaii in April. I tried to get my TA to get Carnival to fax the shore excursion list to me, but they refused. You can go to the website and get a partial list of shore excursions, (they don't have one of the ports we are going to listed), but I wanted to be able to see all the choices at once. I "think" they don't allow you to see the list and prices before you go so that you will be more inclined to book with them once on the ship. If you could see the prices and choices beforehand, you are more inclined to shop around for a better deal online or thru some other agencies. I will say that the shore excursions we booked with Carnival a couple of years ago were EXCELLENT! They were great fun, and went off without a hitch.
