Carnival Excursions

Being my first cruise on Carnival I have seen where some people have stated that if you don't book your excursion through Carnival that in the ports where you tender ashore , you must tender in after people who have booked through Carnival. I know like in Grand Cayman I want to book a sting ray tour through Capt. Marvins myself. Having never been to Belize not sure if we tender in or not but would like to book a tubing excursion myself also. Will this present a problem in making it ashore for excursions that I book? Thanks for the info guys! :AL:USA

We have been on 3 Carnival cruises and always go off on our own. In Belize the ship should be able to dock. The only time you get stuck behind a group of people who are going on an excursion is if they have to meet at 8:eek:o and the tenders start at 8:30 and they are first in line. Pay attention on the excursion sheet as to when they have to meet and get there before they do if you want to get off first. Darlene

Belize has a cruiseship dock???? There was none there when I was last there and there were no plans to build one; had to anchor 4 miles offshore. Having said that, I have never had a problem getting off the ship in time for shore excursions that I booked on my own. If I ever get back to Belize, I plan to do the River rafting thing that you mentioned on my own. Also, Capt. Marvin's tours in Grand Cayman are a great choice.

Belize is a very long tender ride, the longest I know of anywhere.
Organized shore excursions will get the nod over others going ashore. If you book on your own, don't book a tour that is scheduled to leave, say, 30 min. after the ship anchors. Allow yourself some time. Make sure you get back in plenty of time to get the tender back to the ship. Belize City isn't somewhere you would want to miss the ship.

Carnival cruise ships as well as most other lines tender into Belize City from as far away as 5 miles which can take a half hour or more. If you book a private tour, you should go at least an hour before the Ship's tour folks are advised to meet to pick up tender tickets. Reggie (a cave tuber & private tour operator) recommends you get on the first or subsequent tender to meet his group. He usually leaves the pier by 10 Belize time. There have been reports lately of people missing his tour because they got to shore too late. Check out Belize port forum on cruisecritic for more recent comments.
Bon voyage
