Carnival Glory, Just Back

Last week I sailed on the Carnival Glory 5-night maiden voyage and have just completed a preview report about the ship which is accompanied by about 50 photographs. It begins here... <http://cruisediva.com/carnival_glory_1.htm>

I just want to mention how much I liked the ship. I hadn't been on a Carnival cruise for some time and was extremely impressed by the quality of the ship itself and especially the food. Wow! The supper club served one of the best meals I've ever had on a cruise ship.

Enjoy :)

Linda,

My husband and I decided to cruise on the Carnival Glory in October - booking it this past Saturday. I've almost been dreading the reviews. While researching for information I came across your post/thread. Reading what you said above made it easier for me to go ahead and read your review. I was thrilled to say the least. Your excitement about the ship came through in your writing. The pictures are fantastic and made me become more excited than I already was. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

This will be our 7th Carnival cruise, and although we've never been disappointed we have read a lot of disappointing reviews. From having cruised Carnival before I know that your pictures, though absolutely wonderful, don't completely catch the magic that Carnival conveys with its decor. They were in essense just a tease to make us want to see more! Now the only problem is....we have to wait until October!! Thank goodness that's not too far away!

Linda,
Thanks so much for your review. We leave to sail on Glory August 23 . I just want to say thankyou again for your wonderful review. You truly showed the ship for what she is and I for one can't wait to sail on her. I have one question though. Booking tours-Could you do this using your t.v. ? Thanks again :)

Thanks, everyone! If you've sailed with Carnival in the past and enjoyed it, you should really like the Glory. It's a first-rate ship in terms of quality and the food was awesome. The decor is colorful, but I expected that. What I didn't expect was how well the designs flow into one another. The one exception to passenger flow is that the galley/Golden Dining Room are located midship on Decks 3 & 4 so you have to go up or down a deck to reach the aft areas of the ship.

I hope everyone who sails on the Glory will take the time to notice the artwork... it's very creative. Even the paintings in the staterooms are original--none are "prints." The use of light (no neon!) and color is playful and inventive. At no time did I feel my senses were being assaulted :)

Yes... the interactive television system works great. We used it to check our folio several times. Although we could have used it for booking tours, we didn't--others did and were pleased.

Wow! I am so glad we booked our cruise on the Glory. Having traveled with Carnival before I have always been pleased but this one looks to outdo all those others.

We're going October 18th and after reading your review there is no doubt we will have a wonderful time!

Oh and I already planned on doing the Alternative dining for my anniversary night, I'm from Florida but do you know they have NO clue what Stone Crabs are here in Denver??

Thanks so much for the terrific pictures!

Apparently Joe's Stone Crabs are only served in the alternative restaurants on some ships. The upscale alternative restaurant on Carnival Glory is a New York-style "supper club" and doesn't have stone crabs on the menu. However, I had surf 'n turf and it was excellent! You won't be disappointed, but make your reservations immediately!!!

Actually they aren't in "season" right now so that may be why they weren't on the menu. Season starts October 15th, and yes that's just a coincidence my cruise is on October 18th! My first anniversary is the 20th :)

If you've never had Stone Crabs, I highly recommend it. And Joe's is the best, when they're in season the place is packed continuously! :)

Thanks for the update and even if there aren't crabs I'll be extremely happy with whatever they have! I love the idea of alternative dining. It's been almost 6 years (yes 6!) since my last cruise so you can just imagine how much I'm looking forward to this! :)

Do you know if they will be letting us upgrade at the pier or not? :) I'm hoping so! :)

Thanks again!

Not too sure about pier upgrades. The ship sailed "full" with 3000 passengers.

I just got back and was wondering what ship you went on. I was on the first 7 day cruise, and all i saw were lines, lines, lines. especialy at the buffets, grill and pizza. Big Problems getting on and off the ship.
Food was so so, I really think carnival has dpopped a class here. RCCL does much better of a job with the superliners. John Heald and the entertainment are Great! I did have a great time, but i will not choose carnival again.

I read through all of Cruise Diva's review. My husband and I were wondering if as a Cruise Critic, she has to pay for her cruise or get other special treatment ton board that the rest of us would not get? Obviously this could color one's opionion a bit.

We hesitated booking the Glory because it is a new ship and there are always kinks to iron out. I would not want to book the first week or two - or possibly more - on a brand new ship. (Well...unless I just wanted to say "I was on the first cruise of that ship".) However, I would feel the same way about any cruise line and not just Carnival.

We sailed on a fairly new RCCL ship and had problems with standing room only or no standing room at all for some of the activities - and yes we arrived early. There were some other problems too, but that will not keep us from choosing RCCL again.

Hopefully, by the end of October everyone and everything on the Glory will be working well together! Thanks again for the review Linda!

I've been on other carnival cruises, This one just didn't meet up to the standards of the other carnival cruises i've been on. It's seems they have dropped a class, sience their other purchases of the other cruise lines, as to not compete with them.

LOVED YOUR PICTURES AND REVIEWS OF THE SHIP. I HAVE TRAVELED ON BOTH THE DESTINY AND TRIUMPH. LOVELY SHIPS ALSO. WE ARE SAILING ON AUG. 9 - 16TH. SEEMS THE SHIP WILL BE FULL ACCORDING TO CARNIVAL. DID YOU HAVE PROBLEMS GETTING DECK CHAIRS. WE HAVE ALWAYS EXPERIENCED OVERCROWDED POOL AREAS AND NOT ENOUGH CHAIRS AND ROOM ON LIDO OR POOL DECK. ALWAYS GETTING UP AT 6 AM OR SO TO BE ASSURED OF A SEAT. DON'T WANT TO CUT THE SLEEP SHORT BUT LOVE THE SUN AND POOLSIDE ATMOSPHERE. HOW WAS THIS CGLORY SHOP WITH THAT IN MIND? WAS THE SHOP FULL FOR THE MAIDEN VOYAGE?
