Carnival Liberty Questions

I just booked an Eastern Caribbean Cruise on the Carnival Libert and have a lot of questions. We are a family of 5 (myself, hubby, kids ages 3, 7, & 11) and this will be our second cruise. This is the first time we have cruised on Carnival and I have read a lot of mixed reviews. We are not too worried about the rooms because we don't plan on spending much time there. We booked anytime dining too.

1. How is the food in the main dining rooms and buffets? Do you have a large selection to choose from?

2. How is the pool and waterslide on the boat? Is there more than one pool aboard? I have heard complaints that the pool is very very small compared to to other ships.

3. Crowds? I have tons of reviews saying that Carnival Ships are packed with people making it hard to enjoy your days at sea.

4. Entertainment on ship? I know about Camp Carnival and imagine that my children will make use of this. What types of shows are available too? Are they strictly adult shows or are they family shows.

Sorry for all the questions and I am sure I will have more too.

I sailed the Liberty 2 years ago so my experiences may not be what you do.

Dining Room - I have not had a bad dinner in the dining room but I may not be as picky as some.
Buffet - I enjoyed the buffet early in the week but as the week goes on some of the salads are not quite as good. You should never go hungry on any cruise.
Pool & Water Slide - The pool near the water slide is smaller than I would like but the slide is great (It is closed during periods of high wind). The pool at the stern is a little larger and most time less crowded.
Crowds - I have cruised Carnival several times and found that if you avoid the Spring Break and Graduation time cruises the crowds don't seem to be any worse than on any other cruise.
Entertainment - While I don't have any kids many of my friends who cruise on Carnival have been satisfied with the manner in which their kids were cared for and the entertainment provided. Carnival does a pretty good job of keeping similar aged kids together with activities for their age groups.

Hope this helps you.

1) Carnival's food is very good. Most of my cruises have been on Carnival and Royal Caribbean with a couple on NCL. Of the three, as for the main dining, Carnival is the best.

2) Carnival's pools are ever bit as large as the other cruise ships. The Carnival Liberty has three pools. Here are some photos of the pools on the Carnival Glory (a sister ship to the Carnival Liberty - so the pools and water slide will look the same) ...

This is the middle pool ...

This is the aft pool ...

The top over the aft pool can be closed. This is also the aft pool ...

And this is the forward most pool and the water slide ...

3) If the ship is full, then yes, the Carnival ships can feel crowded.

4) There will likely be two productions shows in the main theater and other shows that are family friendly. Then late at night there will additional entertainment that is more adult oriented.

This isn't the best picture (I need a more powerful flash or a better camera which I now have). However, it is the main show lounge on the Carnival Glory (a sister ship to the Carnival Liberty) ...

I took my family on the Liberty in December 2008. We loved it! The food was good. The layout was like one of the Princess ships. They had the outside large movie screen over the pool area. We really enjoyed watching movies from hot tub at night. :)

Staff was very pleasant and accomidating. We didn't use the children's programs (everyone was an adult) but the kids area looked really nice and the kids looked like they were having a great time.

The pool areas are not small compared to other ships (I've been on most lines). Actually it's the opposite on this ship. The kids pool was large and they had their own little slide.

I think you made a great choice with this ship. But.. then again, we are thinking about booking another cruise on this ship in the near future.
