It would be a good move on Carnival's part. Cruises from Mobile are really popular and a newer, larger ship would bolster interest.
We're sorta hoping for more than Fantasy.
Nice to see you posting Sheila.

I think Mobile could probably support a ship larger than Fantasy Class. I'd like to see more than one cruise line sailing from Mobile. A little healthy competition would keep the prices down a bit.

Remember Galveston? They used to have Celebration and a Fantasy class ship doing the seven nighter. Now they have the Conquest and a Fantasy Class. Not to mention mega ships Voyager of the Seas and previously Grand Princess among others.

I think Mobile is an up and coming city for cruise departures.

Currently, the biggest problem in Mobile is a lack of parking space. The cruise terminal garage accommodates only 500 vehicles. The overflow of vehicles resulting from the arrival of the Fantasy has required the city to contract with some private parking garages a few blocks away. I've read that there are plans to expand the current facility, but that may take a while. On the other hand, the cruise terminal was fast tracked and only took 6 months to construct. Perhaps the announcement tomorrow will get the ball rolling expeditiously.

The MAJOR announcement is that the Fantasy is moving to Mobile in the Fall of 2009. :thumb

And the Holiday will be transferred out of the Carnival fleet... I'm pretty sure I predicted this months ago!
